I need a ciggie today.
I was up late last night, terrified of a mouse I saw in my bedroom. Every little noise startled me back awake.
That's a beautiful picture, DG.
Calvin... no ciggies! But, yuck for the mouse. Were you able to catch it?
I trapped it in the corner with my radiator using two tall, plastic VHS/DVD storage towers. I had nothing to help me move it out of there, however. I'm hoping it goes back out the radiator before I get home today (bway tells me that's where they come from), but I'll be picking up some catch-and-release traps in the meantime. As terrified as I am of wild mice, I still feel guilt pangs whenever I use the killer traps.
Will you be able to pick it up and release it, though? *shudders*

I'm the same way. I can't use the killer traps.
You should get some steel wool and look for openings around the radiator, and fill them in. It works well on a temporary basis, until the Super can do something permanent.
I had a mouse problem following construction in my old apartment. It was horrible... I detest city mice, and the thought of them in my home just skeeved me out. I know how you feel!
Perhaps that's the problem. They've just started doing some major renovations on the lower floors. I've seen plenty of roaches, but this was my first vermin encounter in this apartment.

Skeeved me out! What a wonderful phrase. I have never heard that before. When I lived in an old Edwardian in the Castro we had rats. Everyone did - they were disgusting. They even called them "Wharf" rats as a way of endearing them - like it was a quaint San Francisco traditon. MY A*S! lol. I was never so glad to move in my life.
Is "skeeved out" an East Coast thing, then? Interesting.

Like totally girly, I mean major gross out!
Need I say more?
Ugh... rats! mice I don't mind, but rats!!!
The other evening I was sitting with my landlord out in the patio drinking a glass of wine, and I saw something moving on the wire that crosses the patio... he saw me look and said it was probably a rat... they use the wire to cross from the building next to the house to the street. I don't know how well I hid my totally freaking out inside.
girly, you've heard that phrase, haven't you? I have no idea what the origin of it is, but it describes the 'feeling' perfectly.
Calvin, if there's construction then you are going to have mice... a cat is a very GOOD idea!
cheeze, that sounds vile! Rats. Ick. Yuck. Skeevy! I'll bet you were happy to move!
ok - here's my horror mouse story: (actually I have two, but can't bring myself to share the other): When I was having the mouse problem I knew a mouse had died somewhere in my apartment, because I came home to 'that smell'. (*vomits a little at the memory*) I searched and searched and couldn't find it, so decided I HAD to get some sleep (I searched into the wee hours). As I steppped into bed my toe 'squished' something. It turns out the mouse had gotten tangled in the bed skirt, and died there. It had rotted enough to get squishy... and my big toe went right into it.
I SCREAMED. And got into the shower and practically scrubbed the skin off my foot.
Then I called the Super and had him get it OUT of the apartment, stripped the bed and threw away the bedding... and slept in the living room for about a week.
It was HORRIBLE.

Okay - I am officially feeling skeevy! That made my skin crawl Addy. And that smell - we had one die in between the french doors in our living room in that house. The landlord would not even let anyone remove the door to get it out - it was horrid.
You don't want to know the other story.
Fortunately, I no longer live in that apartment...
*feels the need to take a shower at the memory*
SKEEVY!
Ok, Addy, that story ended SO much worse than I thought it would. Now, I really want to hear the one you can't tell.
*squeals like a girl*
Addy!!! That's awful!!! EW!
I feel as if I can't *squish* Addy for some time...

Please PM it - I can't take another. (I am usually not a wimp - but really)
I am TOTALLY skeeved out right now.
I won't tell it. It's so horrible!
Where's Calvin with those ciggies... LOL!
And, Cookie, I think your *squishes* could help erase that memory!
Squish is now the word of the day.
