I LOVE IT!
I guarded my fan club stuff so carefully. Like it was somehow going to become a treasured antique at one point.
The day my Monkees lunchbox and thermos got lost I was practically unconsolable. Such tragedy!
Aaah...the Monkees...I feel a song coming on...

The local rock group down the street
Is trying hard to learn their song
Seranade the weekend squire, who just came out to mow his lawn
Another pleasant valley sunday
Charcoal burning everywhere
Rows of houses that are all the same
And no one seems to care
See mrs. gray she’s proud today because her roses are in bloom
Mr. green he’s so serene, he’s got a t.v. in every room
Another pleasant valley sunday
Here in status symbol land
Mothers complain about how hard life is
And the kids just don’t understand
Creature comfort goals
They only numb my soul and make it hard for me to see
My thoughts all seem to stray, to places far away
I need a change of scenery
Ta ta ta...
Another pleasant valley sunday
Charcoal burning everywhere
Another pleasant valley sunday
Here in status symbol land
Another pleasant valley sunday...

THAT's what matters.
I occasionally wonder what items I would want to save if I suddenly had to evacuate my home...my financial records...all my carefully assembled family history records...and some videotapes I cherish...

Undiscovered, I have the same experience... I wrote to Paul McCartney when I was 10, and also got an autographed picture. And when I moved abroad (=US) my little brother just took over my room and I lost a lot of things... the picture, my Beatles stuff... all the stories I wrote when I was 7... etc. In retrospect, I'm glad the stories are lost. I can claim never to have written those.

I used to write stories all the time... some were long and had chapters and everything. It's what moved me to study journalism in college.
Now my "creative" writing is composing letters, memos, etc.
and the stuff I do on messageboards. LOL.
Photos are a "must save", of course. In my genealogy stuff I have some one-of-a-kind pictures that would be heartbreaking to lose.

My 2 favorite pictures of celebs that they autographed and mailed to me and are framed so they won't get ruined are...Lesley Gore and Brenadette Peters.
Well friends...time to go pack for my weekend in the City. More tomorrow of our memories. Sleep well.
Beacon: I studied Journalism in college too because I loved writing. (btw, I'm kinda joining this thread late, so...hi, everyone...) And I still write stories now. But I'm relieved those early ones are gone. I remember most of them *squirms from embarrassment*
About the importance of photos, what you mentioned reminded of something that happened recently. A friend's house was broken into a few weeks ago, and one of the things that was taken was the daughter's wallet. She's 11, and I'm very close to her, and when i told her her wallet was missing, she just gave this heartbreaking look and said, "But all the pictures of my friends are in there!" =(

Yea...some of my stories were mighty embarassing...but I loved doing it.
Somewhere along the way I lost the "bug"...every once in a while I try...but I'm insecure about it now. I should just do it and hide it so only I see it...
Gotta head to bed...another long day tomorrow.
Nighty-night. Don't let the bedbugs bite!

David Cassidy Fan club member here. I remember part of the package had all these little heart shaped stickers of David's face and they said SWAK. I put those things all over.
Garage bands - I was sitting on my front steps and I heard this music coming from somewhere, so I started walking down the sidewalk and two houses down, the neighbor's son was playing lead guitar. Guess there was 4 or 5 of them. They named themselves The Footsteps. The song they kept playing over and over was I Shot The Sheriff. I had such a crush on him after that. Fast forward 10 years later and I went into this lounge in my town and who's the house band? The Footsteps minus my old neighbor.
beacon1 - Few years ago, I was calling for Journey tickets at the Arts Center and for a change got through immediately. When the ticket rep asked me if I wanted anything else, I looked at the list and for the heck of it said I'd take 2 tickets for The Monkees. Figured I'd find someone to go with me. I was so surprised when she came back with front row center. I got some great pictures of them. I adored Davy. They actually motioned everyone up closer to the stage, so that was pretty cool.

Heard this one on the way to work:
Red, Red Wine (raise your hand if you knew Neil Diamond wrote and sang this first!)
Red, red wine
Go to my head
Make me forget that i
Still need her so
Red, red wine
It’s up to you
All I can do, I’ve done
But memories won’t go
No, memories won’t go
I’d have sworn
That with time
Thoughts of you
Would leave my head
I was wrong
And I find
Just one thing
Makes me forget
Red, red wine
Stay close to me
Don’t let me be alone
It’s tearing apart
My blue, blue heart

*Hand raised* speaking of the Monkees..did you that Neil Diamond wrote this song too???
I’M A BELIEVER
By neil diamond
I thought love was only true in fairy tales
Meant for someone else but not for me.
Love was out to get me
That’s the way it seemed.
Disappointment haunted all my dreams.
Then I saw her face, now I’m a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind.
I’m in love, I’m a believer!
I couldn’t leave her if I tried.
I thought love was more or less a given thing,
Seems the more I gave the less I got.
What’s the use in tryin’?
All you get is pain.
When I needed sunshine I got rain.
Then I saw her face, now I’m a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind.
I’m in love, I’m a believer!
I couldn’t leave her if I tried.
O.K. wasn't gonna mention this, but I'm dying here. Davy kissed my cheek! :::major swoon:::
Journey was o.k. I saw Journey alot way back when, but I missed my Steve Perry. It was great seeing Neil, Jonathan and the others, but Journey with a Steve Perry wannabee was only o.k.
Boobs, I only just found that out when I saw Neil at the Garden Oct. 2001. I never knew that before. I love trivia like that.

bdwaygirl...whenever as a child I bought a 45 I would study the damn thing..always had to see who wrote the song...flip side too. Nowadays I just put a CD on and don't even pull out the jacket..unless of course it's an OBC recording...I love looking and the pictures and the lyrics.
I knew, I knew!!! (jumping up and down!!) That Mr. Diamond wrote that song and sang "Red Red Wine" first.
RobbO whatever i did please accept my humble apology.
BB have a fun time tonight, wish I could be there.
Met billy Joel after a concert once. That was cool
Let the jokes begin.....
Did you hear they raised the terror alert level in New Jersey to Fuschia???
