The was the theme song from the film THE STERILE CUCKOO, which starrred Liza Minnelli.
I don't recall just yet who sang it.
Here you go gang..

Come Saturday morning
I'm goin' away with my friend
We'll Saturday-spend till the end of the day-ay
Just I and my friend
We'll travel for miles in our Saturday smiles
And then we'll move on
But we will remember long after Saturday's gone
(Come Saturday morning, come Saturday mo-o-rning)
Come Saturday morning
I'm goin' away with my friend
We'll Saturday-laugh more than half of the day (ay-ay-ay)
Just I and my friend (my friend)
Dressed up in our rings and our Saturday things
And then we'll move on
But we will remember long after Saturday's gone
(Come Saturday morning, come Saturday morning)
Come Saturday mo (Saturday) rning
Just I and my friend (my friend)
We'll travel for miles in our Saturday smiles
And then we'll move on
But we will remember long after Saturday's gone
(Come Saturday morning, come Saturday mo-o-rning)

YES! That's it - and The Sterile Cuckoo - that's why I remember it being bittersweet... Thanks!!
Cheers, folks!
I'm just popping in for a Cocktail before I have to go out and meet some friends...
I've just made a batch of Manhattans - anyone care to join me?
NYadgal I'll join you for Manhattans later...I need to go do some cleaning right now.
Hopefully we'll all be back later.
I'm back from dinner, and ready for an after dinner drink...
Let me go rummage through my liquor bottles and see what I can come up with...
When I was little I always thought the adults drinking creme de menthe seemed ultra cool, but I've never been a fan of the liqueur... too sweet...
any suggestions?
How about a Kettle One Dirty Martini?
I'm in the mood for an old tearjerker movie..I'm thinking of "An Imitation of Life" with Lana Turner.
good idea - I'll mix up a batch...
anybody else around to join the party?

My mother, other chaperones and the parish priest used to down "iced tea" at our Youth events. Father H had them in his special thermoses and they were for grown-ups only.
Long Island Ice Tea...
And whiskey sours... so they were all feeling VERY mellow...
I remember tasting Cold Duck for the first time after a bridge club party my parents had...

Where is everyone...could you imagine being out on a Saturday night???
tearjerker movies on a Saturday night are always a good idea!
I started to plow through the 900 hours of TV I taped last night...but wasn't in the mood for silly stuff...something a little more sophisticated tonight, I think.
I caught a few minutes of Talented Mr. Ripley - which I don't really like - except to watch Jude Law play the Sax...
My Mom at every wedding we went to drank Scotch sours because she said they wouldn't give you a hang over.

I was at a wedding reception this afternoon and started talking to some peers about this thread...they were laughing so hard at the stuff we were remembering. It was a great time.
Does anyone remember "Chunky" candy bars. They were square and stuffed with all sorts of things in the chocolate.
And, ju-ju-bees & good n plenties at the movies.
And, how long has it been since you made popcorn in a kettle on the stove and then added your own salt and melted butter.
In our house, Jiffypop was a real treat. And then, in college, the hot air poppers were THE dorm room accessory.

did you have a vanity (or cabinet) full of Loves Fresh Lemon products - circa 7th grade? I had all sorts of soaps and splashes and lotions...as did all my friends.
Funny story about Trivial Pursuit...playing one time with friends (all of which were NOT broadway people), question was "Hernando's Hideaway" is from what Musical.
Answer please...
beacon - yes to all the candies and snacks you mentioned!
I was telling my friends tonight about this, too, and they said they wanted me to email the thread to them...and were coming up with some good memories, too. We had so many laughs about it!
bboobs - I'm a 'regular' at Trivial Pursuit - my pals and I love it!
Jean Nate - absolutely! I had bottles of it.
Bboobs - I have no idea. And won't cheat on Google... What's the answer...tell! tell!

Omigosh...my VANITY! I completely forgot about the flip up mirror and little drawers. It was made of some industrial strength plastic, white with gold trim on the faux french molding. I loved it.
And the drawers were stuffed with Luv's Fresh Lemon, Jean Nate and one other one...gosh...what WAS it????
