they're back in style.
but not for me...my halter days are long gone...
...my computer keeps freezing...and I just got 'logged off'...so am going to try to re-start.
be right back -
How about tube tops? They seem to be back in too. Mom loved those too.
...I'm back.
Tube tops were a staple of my wardrobe! Along with my hip huggers...
and clogs.
I wore platform shoes for my grammar school graduation and fell down the church steps coming out...funny now.
LOL!
I had a few twisted ankles from those stupid shoes, myself!
And when all the girls were wearing their clogs in the school stairwell, the noise was deafening! (Boys didn't wear clogs back then, I don't think).
No Clogs back then were only for girls. Now I love them..anything I can slip on and off is wonderful. Not having to bend over to tie a shoe is my type of shoe.
Do remember ABC cards to prove when you went to a club you were old enough to drink...just your license wasn't good enough back then. New Jersey licenses didn't have a picture on them so your ABC card did.
Yes - I remember those!
I grew up in Connecticut, and when I was a teenager the drinking age was 18 - so I was 'legal' by the end of my senior year.
Then, I went to college in Ohio and the drinking age was 21 - although you could drink 3.2 beer (aka - water) at the age of 18. So...we just used our fake IDs, or had our dorm RAs do a liquor run...
...and there weren't any Clubs in Ohio!
That was a fraternity scene - straight out of Animal House!
Do clubs still do Ladies nights??? I always went clubbing with my girl cousins so they always bought me drinks..LOL !!! It was fun having girl cousins the same age as you.
It's funny you bring that up -
on 20/20 last night John Stossel's "Give Me A Break" segment was on the fact that some idiot is trying to make "ladies nights" illegal - because they're discriminatory...
They used to be great - no cover, and half-price, or cheap, drinks...and lots of guys would show up because there were so many girls!
I haven't been to a true 'ladies night' since...probably...Spring Break in Ft. Lauderdale! And it's hard to remember much of that...
Why can't people nowadays just leave some old traditions alone. I mean I'm all for changes that will make the world a better place, but c'mon Ladies Night ??? Who is it really hurting???
nobody - and that was the point. The club and bar owners are especially mad, because it's obviously good for business - or it wouldn't have lasted for SO long.
Apparently 'nickle beer' night at bars has been 'outlawed' too, because it promoted reckless drinking.
There's also a move afoot to eliminate "Happy Hour"...
NOT "Happy Hour"..please say it ain't so. What's funny is I'm really not much of a drinker..usually 2 is my limit now, but it's nice to know you can still go to a "Happy Hour" and feel like you're getting something for nothing.
Do you remember those oblong colored beads (don't know if they had a name) and we'd wear them on a leather thread ? They came in colors like yellow with red dots and such.
same here -
my 'drinking' is more related to wine with dinner, or drinks at a party...but Happy Hour is a time-honored tradition that should be left alone!
....which brings me to "Last Call".
I'm going to sign off, because I have to be up early tomorrow.
As always, this was fun...it's amazing how many memories are stored away...and how many still keep coming!
Hope to catch up with you again - tomorrow.
Sunday Brunch! I'll mix the Bloody Mary's...
Yes - to the beads.
I was into beads in a big way. On me, in my room...loved them!
(I'll try to find out if those beads had a name for tomorrow...)
Good night NYadgal...it was fun as usual. I'll have my Bloody Mary extra spicy please...Thanks. Until tomorrow. Goodnight Sweetheart Goodnight.
It's a plan!
'Night!
This thread is catching up to the "Welcome,Eddie Varley" thread.
Morning, everyone...I'm off to Church, but will be back for Brunch.
In the meantime - here's a milestone:
August 1, 1981 - the birth of MTV. (just saw a little piece on it on CBS This Morning...).
Now, THAT will separate the men from the boys - I had already 'grown-up' before MTV was introduced...
Remember those first V-jays.
And Michael Jackson's videos. I'll give him that much - they were art!
see you later!

I associate the birth of MTV with being at a party where Lauren Bacall gave one of the waiters cash and sent him out to buy her a bottle of Stolichnaya Vodka because the Park Avenue hosts were serving a cheap "no name" vodka. I make the association because we were watching MTV at the time Ms. Bacall insisted on having Stoli, in a no nonsense but amusing way I might add.
Lauren Bacall - beautiful...and a Diva!
Hi folks - it's raining in NYC, so perfect weather to grab a cup of coffee and curl up with an old movie, a good book...or this thread!!
ok - here's one that I don't think has been brought up yet (although I could be wrong...but don't feel like checking back on 61 pages...)
Danny Kaye!
I loved him!
I loved his movie - and the song - Hans Christian Anderson...
Those 'childhood' songs: (his records were some of my favorites)
Thumbelina
Anywhere I Wander
Ugly Duckling...
And, of course - his humor:
"the pellet with the poison's in the vessel with the pestle; the chalice from the palace has the brew that is true"
- The Court Jester
