Posted: 11/18/06 at 3:25amAnyone see this yet? It sounds like they're trying to take one of the most thinly drawn characters to have ever entered popular culture and humanize him. Sounds bitchin'.

Oh my god.
It's a movie thread that's not about some obscure, artsy, weird-ass film. Good for you.
And he's not that complex, but the character's kick ass.

Meh. I've never...ever...ever...ever...ever...felt even a sliver of connection with James Bond. It may just be because I'm an overweight movie geek and not a suave secret agent, but that's beside the point.
I'm interested to see if this film will reverse that for me.

James Bond has one goal: To save the world.
That's it. It's not love. It's not family. It's not to drink himself into a stuper.
His goal is to save the world. He always succeeds. I'm surprised there's been this many Bond films. Losing isn't an option.

FW: The word is "stupor," for God's sake! And it's "I'm surprised there HAVE been this many Bond films."
Cruel: You're not fat! Furthermore, I don't care for James Bond either.

Casino Royale was the first book in the series
It was originally filmed for TV with Barry Nelson as 007. The films started dispensing with the book plots ( for the most part ) after Thunderball. When Moore entered the picture ( along with Jaws ) the movies became parodies
They are throwbacks to an earlier time. As long as people keep being entertained by them they will make them. i am anxious to see his take on the role
The best bonds were Connery & as hard as it may be to believe George Lazenby In On Her Majesties Secret Service) - one of the best & close to the book from what I recall

The movie is great! You'll love it. He's the best bond since Connery, and that's saying quite a lot.
It's full of action, but not a very "techy" movie. It's all about Bond first becoming a "double-0." And Judi Dench is great as M.

Yes, baby.
The only weird thing is that he does this "pursed lips" thing a lot in the film, kinda like Clara Bow.
It's a little odd and almost funny... but most of the time I wasn't looking at his lips.

I saw the movie last night. Daniel Craig gives a compelling performance....and he's incredibly sexy.
Plot-wise, I thought the movie got de-railed during the last 35 minutes. It's a long movie, and could have easily been edited to a even 2 hours.
Eva Green does an adequate job job of acting (and wearing designer clothing)...a slightly smarter Bond Girl, but nothing to write home about.

I have always loved the Bonds, but I lost interest during the Pierce Brosnan years, when they got so grimly full of themselves. The new "Casino Royale" is a smashing return to form. It's sort of a "Young Sherlock Holmes" approach--we see how Bond developed his taste for martinis, tailored jackets, Aston Martins, and disposable girlfriends. The criminal plot being investigated is actually somewhat believable (so that the superb action sequences actually have tension and suspense, not cartoonishness) and Daniel Craig, Eva Green, and Judi Dench do startling things with their iconic characters.
There's also an amusing sexual-objectification switch--one of the first memorable images in the whole Bond series (in "Dr. No") involved Ursula Andress emerging from the sea, spilling out from a barely-there bikini (an image weakly homaged by Halle Berry in the ghastly "Die Another Day"). Here, Daniel Craig is the one who arises (ahem) from the ocean wearing a tiny Speedo which appears to be hanging on for dear life.

After watching Daniel Craig for 2 hrs, the 2 friends I saw this with were compelled to go out and hook up.
I think that's pretty effective.

Posted: 11/20/06 at 1:55pmI thought the movie was pretty good--the bf is a HUGE fan of James Bond. I thought it was about 40 minutes too long and the Bond girl was maybe the most generic yet, but the chase action scenes are great and Daniel is very hot and very effective.

Kudos to the costumer for Daniel Craig's wardrobe (or lack thereof).

I loved this movie. When I first heard Daniel Craig was going to be the next James Bond, I wasn't pleased. A blond James Bond? Never.
But he absolutely proved me wrong. Not only was his acting better than any other Bond, but he was also sexy as hell.
It was awesome. - theaterkid1015

Loved the movie - very different from the usual Bond outing - sort of played out more like "The Bourne Supremacy".
But wow.
Daniel Craig is HOTTTTTTT.

Just got back from seeing it
The best Bond since Connery & one of the better Bond movies. Almost non stop action & many changes made from original novel
The beginning & title sequence were quite good. They have definitely revived the franchise
