Chick-fil-A has come under fire over the past few years for its strategy retreats featuring anti-equality speakers, its expressed policies against gay couples (married or otherwise) staying at its WinShape retreat centers, and considerable financing of organizations that work to fight equal civil rights for LGBT Americans (among other causes). Company COO Dan Cathy doesn't seem to care:
Some have opposed the company's support of the traditional family. "Well, guilty as charged," said [Dan] Cathy when asked about the company's position.
"We are very much supportive of the family -- the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.
Yep. We hate you. Have a waffle fry!

Well, his last name is Cathy. And as everyone intelligent knows, only women are named Cathy. Cathy is a feminine name, which means he must be feminine, which translates into that he must be gay. He's a GAY CHICKEN!! And a GAY WAFFLE FRY MAKER!!! Jesus may have died on the cross for you, Cathy, but he didn't have any talking cow billboards, now, did he?

Chick Fil-A already violates those Biblical principles by including bacon on their menu.
Leviticus 11:7 -- "And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be clovenfooted, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you.

Thats the Freedom Trail. Thats where it all started right here. And were not going to have a company, Chick-fil-A or whatever the hell the name is, on our Freedom Trail.
I love that guy.
Me too! What a great letter.

The amount of people who claim to be Christian who resort to name calling and flat out lying is truly breathtaking. Is there a commandment I missed that says "Thou shalt build a persecution complex based on thou's own bearing of false witness"?

My great Nephew (a vegan) got into it on the Chik fil A Facebook for asking "If God doesn't want you to serve gays how come he gives you a pass for what you do to His chickens?"

So proud to live here in Boston (well, technically, Cambridge, but I work in Boston, right across from City Hall)! Believe it or not, though, there was a Chik-Fil-A location right on Harvard's campus when I was in college (which is over 10 years ago), and I am sad to admit I ate there on numerous occasions, being ignorant of their political views. That location closed years ago, and it could certainly never open there today!

I've seen several people posting this, but I'm afraid I can't jump on the agreement wagon. Despite any claims that a boycott is ineffective, or that Chick Fil A gives lots of money to other, less discriminatory causes, it doesn't change the fact that this is a company that gives money (and has had its owner voice his unwavering support for) to organizations whose only aims are to interfere with the lives of gay people. There's no equivalent for "the left is the same!" argument that people who liked to pretend that "balance" and "two sides of the story" are equal, immutable things. Chick Fil A gives money to anti-gay groups and is proud of it. That should be enough for anyone with a conscious to think twice. This article seems to think that be allowing Chick Fil A's pathetic, hateful use of their money to stand, that that is somehow taking some kind of principled stand on freedom on liberty. To me, that's just a craven stand on nothing at all.
The only way there would be "balance" is if there were gay-led organizations collecting money to restrict the rights of and legislate against Christians. When you stop laughing, you'll realize that of course that never frigging happens. But if that damn chicken sandwich is so important to you, knock yourself out.

....why did I read the comments? Why do I always read the comments?!

Kad, that's what I always say to myself when I wade into comment sections. For the longest time I didn't, but then I started creeping in again. After two days of reading and arguing on the Chic Fil A Facebook status, I had to stop. I won't even go back to look and see what has been posted since. All this does is reassure my worst fears that Americans love to have a publicly sanctioned outlet for their homophobia.
The Muppets wave goodbye to Chick-fil-A!!
Buh-bye!
Between this and the Boy Scout thing, I have agree with you, Phyllis. These organizations make it easy for people to be outspoken about their hate and for them to justify it- which is even worse than the organizations' policies themselves.

Also, calling people fags and sodomoties is freedom of religion; thinking it's appalling that a company donates money to restrict/remove/prevent from getting something they ever even had in the first place is anti-Christianity!
I hade never heard of the place until this started being discussed, but I must admit, their largely revolting looking menu does offer up this gem, which ties into another thread on here...
