A few thoughts:
-ATONEMENT for Best Picture
-Emile Hirsch and James McAvoy for Best Actor
-Laura Linney for Best Actress
-Joe Wright (ATONEMENT) for Best Director
-ZODIAC for anything
-ATONEMENT for Best Editing
-Christopher Gunning's moving LA VIE EN ROSE score
-"Hard Sun" from INTO THE WILD for Best Song
Gordon Pinsent, best actor for Away From Her. Because Julie Christie is getting all the buzz (deservedly so), Pinsent's brilliant and understated portrayal has been almost totally overlooked.
Ed Sanders (Toby in Sweeney Todd) for supporting actor. This is almost completely impossible, but it would be nice.
I agree with Amy Adams. Great comedic turns are extremely underappreciated by the Academy.
I think Page definitely deserves the award. Not to say that Julie Christie doesn't, she is probably one of the best actresses alive but young Page didn't fall into the dozens of stereotypes and traps in the role.
JUNO may not be a revolutionary film, but it is candid, touching, and it manages to be really sad at times and then really sweet at others. I also loved the ending, they really did show consistency.
Ultimately, it's Jennifer Garner's nod the one surprise that would make me the happiest on Tuesday.

I would LOVE to see Emile Hirsch nominated for best actor. And I'm guessing I'd probably feel the same way about James McAvoy if/when I saw Atonement, because I think he's brilliant

-Juno receiving no nominations aside from a Best Supporting Actress for Garner, who actually convinced me with this movie that she can be genuine.
-McAvoy for Best Actor
-Zodiac, Sweeney Todd, or Atonement Best Picture
-Helena for Best S.A.
-Atonement for Best Editing most definitely
-Vanessa Redgrave for Supporting Actress and beating Dame Judi for the shortest screen-time record!
-La Vie En Rose garnering any nomination

Really out of left field nominations:
Best Actress: Molly Shannon for Year of the Dog
Best Supporting Actress: Allison Janney for Hairspray
Maria Bello for Jane Austen Book Club
(to make up for her not getting nominated
for History of Violence)
Best Supporting Actor: Alan Tudyk for Death at a Funeral
Not as crazy:
Best Supporting Actor: Timothy Spall for Sweeney Todd
Philip Bosco for The Savages
Documentary: Show Business: The Road to Broadway
I'm surprised Philip Bosco hasn't received more buzz. A pitch-perfect performance, and I cannot imagine anyone interpreting that character better.
Maybe "ShowBuissness" for Best Documentary?
"Great comedic turns are extremely underappreciated by the Academy."
I completley agree.
I'd love it if Ratatouille got a Best Picture nomination.
It was one of the best movies of the year and why should it be confined to the Animated Feature category?
^So it's guaranteed to win something!

I think the biggest imaginable surprise would be a bunch of good Oscar-worthy work getting nominations.
Such as?
A ZODIAC resurgence.
It would also be nice to see Jennifer Jason Leigh get nominated for MARGOT AT THE WEDDING, but that may be one of the most overlooked movies of the year.
Philip Bosco should indeed get a nomination, I wonder why THE SAVAGES isn't getting much love from the awards, I thought it was wonderful and Bosco gives an Oscar-worthy performance. Linney was great as usual, of course.

My biggest best surprise would be for ZODIAC to get the recognition it deserves, most particularly for Robert Downey Jr. to get a well-deserved Supporting Actor nomination.
I'll be very pleasantly surprised to see Tim Burton get a nomination for Best Director for SWEENEY TODD, but I doubt this will happen. The Academy that twice recognizes Clint Eastwood as Best Anything is so far removed from anything I would consider sensible that I should probably just do my blood pressure a favor and ignore the whole ghastly thing.
Ethan Hawke for Before the Devil Knows You're Dead. It wasn't the great Sidney Lumet comeback I was hoping for, but it was a very involving film and Hawke gave a beautiful, haunted performance. Best Supporting Actor.
