It was so weird; last night, I was on the blog site and that video was there, but a few minutes later, it was gone!

For what it's worth, his explanation comes off as really sincere; maybe people will quit their whining now, even if it's a choice they don't like, it's worth it to understand how it came about.

I still can not *wait* to see that Mark/Roger fight.

I wish they would put it back into the film on the DVD and let US decide if its too strong or not. Seeing a deleted scene separately is quite different than having it seemingly flow through the movie.

Yes, but half of it is gone. The Mark/Roger fight, the Mimi/Roger confrontation, and Mimi's "goodbye love, hello disease" part are all gone.

This is totally random, but I feel Chris's picture on the blog makes him look much older than he actually is. He looks better in the video.

I'm still bothered by this, so I don't want to comment too in-depth. I love the movie, but I still feel like it would have been better with the second half of Goodbye Love and Halloween. I don't want to have skip over the to "deleted scenes" to be able to see it- that would ruin the emotional impact. Maybe if we beg enough, we can get a director's cut of the movie on DVD

Fantabulous, I agree wholeheartedly. I wish they would include two versions of the film on the DVD. I really want to see the entire film. I have to believe Jonathan would have wanted the film to exist in its entirety somewhere.

Agreeing with jerseygirl and others, I hope there's a director's cut eventually. Halloween and the whole Mark/Roger fight are two of my favorite parts in the show, and I was totally looking foreward to seeing them on screen/in the context of the whole film, not just as deleted scenes. Again, as others already said, I wish he'd let us just see them in context; maybe he felt it was too much emotionally, but perhaps not for us.

Wow, just found something out. If you change the number in the URL, blog videos that (I believe) haven't been posted yet can be seen.

For example, the GOODBYE LOVE comments from Columbus can be found at the following URL:

If you change the number after the word "junket", you can see video clips that havent been posted yet. Let me know if I'm wrong.

As for the suggestion of a Director's Cut DVD...what Columbus released IS the director's cut. He wasn't constrained by time or producers' insistence that he remove the scene -- he felt the film worked better without it.

i agree with putting the full length version along with the theater version, just because i'd like to see how it fits in, not just the scene.

I'd like to have the option of viewing the deleted scenes within the film, too, but I totally understand why they wouldn't do it. The scenes were deleted for a reason. Sure, show the scenes, but separately.

You know, the people at Sony are *still* spoiling us. They really don't have to do all this stuff for us fans, especially answer our questions directly. However, I'm not complaining in any way! I love what they do!

I would like to see it edited back into the film also. I am seeing the film again just to see if I enjoy it more the second time around. While not a bad film overall, after seeing it and letting it sink in, I was not impressed with the "chemistry" or lack thereof between Pascal and Dawson. Adam Pascal just didn't seem to emit the same emotions he did onstage. So by the time we got to the last scene, I just didn't feel the emotion I feel I should have when he sang "Yor Eyes". JMO

On the DVD it might have an option to see the scenes in context with the film. I have some DVDs where you can watch the deleted scenes in the movie.

then he fesses up to the *fact* that there were indeed cuts made to film to get that PG-13 rating.
~ i didn't find the finale emotional at all, especially "your eyes". to me it wouldn't have made a bit of difference how that last scene effected me emotionally with or without the rest of "goodbye love" sequence intact simply because that finale a/your eyes sequence was so poorly shot.
~ what's going to be his excuse for butchering the libretto...was it "too emotional" for him also?

I suppose it's moot now, but the only thing he truly owned up to taking out were a few "f*cks." If you don't even know where they were supposed to be, you can't really miss 'em, you know? I think he also owned up to having to remove needles actually going in to skin, but again, the point is still there. In the same interview, he said that he did *not* remove several of the image sequences that the MPAA had asked him to, yet when they re-evaluated the film after making the requests, they still gave it a PG-13. So, there was still *some* element of surprise; I don't think he's totally full of sh*t.

It is what it is, though...

He shouldn't have cut the songs, and now he realizes he ****ed up and is just back tracking as fast as his ass can go.

Actually, his argument hasn't changed any from the time that he made the cut to the present backlash. What he says in that video *is* his original explanation for the cut; he's not backpedaling just because now he (assumedly) realizes that people are pissed off. He didn't change his reason; that *is* his reason, not a cop-out he's putting on. Whether you agree with it or disagree with it is a different story and you are of course free to do so, but it's not spin, or something he's just making up now to shut people up. This was his explanation before the fans got mad.

in this sub par film adaptation the cutting those songs was one of the biggest mistakes (aside from hiring CC to direct it). The emotional impact of the entire last third of the movie was nonexistant. Congratulations Chris, you managed to turn the most powerful part of the stage show into the weakest part of the movie.

Can you guys not just trust Chris? Anthony did, as did Idina, Adam, Jesse, Wilson and Taye...so why won't you guys? He said himself that it was the most touching song he shot, it's not like this was easy for him! But don't make accusations when you haven't seen the film with Goodbye Love.

Seriously, I don't get the personal Zone and others have against Chris. He was hired, the movie was made, end of story. He's not making excuses, this is how he feels. I don't feel anything was "butchered" at all.
