First off, whoa, how wrong you are. Julie Berman is doing a fantastic job, and is COMPLETELY in awe of and respectful of the legacy, it's so obvious.
Secondly, Amber Tamblyn played Emily, not Lulu.

my bad about amber, but let me know what you think when you watch the special. i would be interested to hear your, girlie's, and blue's take on it. maybe it's just me, but i thought the actress was disrespectful to genie. (i'm talking about real life, not acting on the show)

Posted: 11/24/06 at 11:02amOh I see what you mean. I will check that out - but as Lulu, I have to say I've always been impressed by how much she seems to be madly in love with Genie as her mother - with the Laura character - as if she gets it even though she was too young to have seen any of it.

Posted: 11/24/06 at 3:06pmIs GH on today? I hope not, considering the 10:00 SoapNet showing would be pre-empted by this. I assume there is some football game scheduled, right?

OMG!! I loved this time - Rick and Monica having the affair, and LESLEY LESLEY LESLEY!!! At The Floating Rib, no less!!
When Lesley was sexually attracted to someone, boy you knew it. Just a look...

Okay, Robb, are you talking about Julie and Genie's first meeting? I think she was extremely overwhelmed and intimidated - put yourself in her shoes - she's been hearing about this woman since the day she got the job. Every single day, the legend is all around her. She's been anticipating this meeting for a long time, and is probably excited and terrified at the same time.
AND she has to do it on camera!
If anyone is disrespecting Genie, it's Tony! He treats her as if she's a feeble old woman, or someone with emotional instability.

i am talking about that meeting, rath. i thought genie was gracious and marvelous and that tart was all like, "me too!"
perhaps it's nerves, but she should learn to at least act or be prepared for a scripted moment like that to show a veteran like genie some respect. for shame.
oh, and leslie can totally do better than dr. pirelli. hell, even howard was better looking. audrey is better looking. anything but that controlling, creepy, bad-wig wearing pirelli.
lastly, i only watched the first of the four episodes so far. is that hutch that is following luke & laura in the department store?

RobbO, you're so MEAN! The kid was clearly overwhelmed, and when Genie said she'd been so looking forward to meeting her, that's when Julie said, "Me too!" very nervously. Obviously she meant she'd been looking forward to the meeting. You really couldn't see what a wreck the poor kid was? Genie was gracious, yes, trying her best to put her at ease, but it was not an easy situation.
Remember the first time we met? Kind of like that.

i like leslie better with darker hair. and, not to be mean (too late) but genie really aged a lot in the four years since she was on the show last.
is her health okay?

Yes, I never liked Leslie blonde. I don't know about Laura's health, but Leslie is clearly not well. Not only does she not walk normally, but her voice is about half what it used to be.
God, I love her.

I'm sure Genie's health is okay. She still looks very pretty to me. She just put on some weight and has not given into the plastic surgery thing. I think she's just relaxed, enjoying family life and her business in New England and has just gotten away from that whole Hollywood thang.
Rath--is that Barbara Stanwyck in your av? You sure do love the old biddies (see: Alexander, Denise).
bdwaygirl--I haven't had time to check my DVR. If it did record, is there a way I can save it for you and mail it to you? Not sure if my DVD player can record and I do not have a VHS anymore. Let me see what I can find out.

if i'm not mistaken, blue, girlie already has a dealer lined-up for her fix.
genie is very pretty, but i was just surprised how, umm, thick she had gotten. especially since four years ago, she was still, umm, not thick.

It happens, Robb.
And that *aHEM* "old biddy" is legendary Australian musical theater/television performer Toni Lamond.
ETA: To avoid confusion I will clarify that since that post, I have changed my av to that middle-aged siren, Debra Monk.

My dealer came through with my fix! I love him! Thanks for the offer, blue.
I didn't think Julie showed any disrespect to Genie, either. Can't even imagine how she must've felt finally meeting her after all she'd heard. She probably had voices of family members running around inside her head at the time, too!
I'm still plotzing over the walk down memory lane. I'm going to pretend the nonsense of the past few weeks never even happened.

So I watched the soapnet marathon/special, and my sister's Tivo of the wedding and Laura's last episode.
The funny thing about the retrospective is how many of those scenes I remembered, and I wasn't even born yet! We had a video Luke and Laura: the greatest love of all...it was made in honor of their return, there was 2...one was summer on the run, this one showed highlights of everything that happened after that. I saw the wedding many times so I knew that, and the dancing in Wyndham's but it was funny how I remembered the last part in bed, and when Laura wanted a job at the disco, which I think I remember from my sister's best-of-GH weddings tape.
Damn, the things I miss on the show from not having watched since like '98. (with the exception of Vanessa Marcil's brief return which did nothing for this diehard Sonny & Brenda fan...ulgh)...since when is Dan from Charmed Lucky? Weirdness. He was cuter on Charmed. No one will ever replace Jonathan Jackson for me.
But hey Tyler's at least much better than that awful Nikolas replacement they had. I think of all the kids his goodbye scene with Laura was best because they had worked together and such in the past. My sister said that Genie herself added that whole thing about the heart. Aww.
What Luke and Laura said to each other in their final good-bye I felt could have been better, but the acting made up for it. (On that subject, I still crack up when I see Anthony's first emmy win). My sister at least bought it, she was crying hysterically. I actually didn't tear up till Jason called Monica. Go figure.
I thought the stuff with Tracy at the wedding was funny *shrug*
Awesome that Robert Scorpio was back for this (wasn't he the original best man?) but aww if Laura never talked to him.
It was cool on the special seeing Jackie talk about those of them that were at both weddings and such.
Oh, and way for me to be jumping around everything, but I really enjoyed the second episode of the retrospective. It was the one episode I don't think I had seen any scenes from before, and it was cute. I can imagine how impatient the fans must have been for that moment.
I was a little disappointed that Maxie caught the bouquet and not Scotty. (of course to me I was like whoa, why is Belle catching the bouquet and what is she doing there?)
Ooh, it was also cute to see their actual first meeting in the retrospective and the scene where they realize they were pregnant with Lucky. And aww, little Jonathan at Lulu's birth.
It's also weird what an old-timer Becky's become. She went to GH just from playing Suzee in Space Cases when I watched and loved both, and I guess hasn't left. It was cute seeing her say hello to Genie, when she mentioned how Genie took her under her wing, I remembered the parallels of the rape storyline.
Who was that Pirelli guy? I read the GH history scrapbook years ago when I got into the show and I can't rememebr him.
Considering Laura was saying good-bye to 2 people we've barely seen ehr work with, it would have been nice for her to say bye to Lesley.
Ah well. Fun to see everything and reminisce and going back to missing the Labine years at GH. I can't believe Guza's still there...ick.
Ooh, did anyone see Anthony and Genie on the view? I watched that on my sister's tivo as well. Rosie was talking to them and Joy said something about what kind of name is Tracy Quartermaine? and Rosie was like do you watch or know about this stuff and Joy was like no, began to say but she'd like to, and Rosie cut her off and was like okay fine, then don't talk to them. Ha! Actually as i was watching i was saying it would be nice if Rosie was the only one who talked since she was the only one who knew what she was talking about. It was really funny.

same here, wrq. i was alive to see many of the scenes in the retrospective, but i was surprised to see how well i remembered the events (and i never saw them since they originally aired in the early 80s).
i've only watched the retro. and the first of the four episodes and i have a question. did we ever learn if alan jr. (a.j.) was rick's or alan's. i'm assuming from monica's body language in her scene with rick that he is alan's son, after all.
and, i'll ask again. the guy chasing luke & laura through wyndhams, is that hutch?
