Her name is Jaymes. She's 50. She was inseminated.

Why do it? Well, she's his friend and maybe she wanted a child before she got too old to have one and he was doing her a favour. And it's not like he's ever going to get married and have kids the old fashioned way. It happens all the time.

BEFORE SHE GOT TOO OLD????? BEFORE?? Seriously, Gilliane!

If she can get pregnant she's not too old.

The fact that she's David Foster's sister proves that it has nothing to do with business . . .
This is just too ridiculous for words.

gilliane, I just think fifty IS too old to have one. I'm assuming, like Phyllis suggested, it is a donor egg. Even so, there are so many risks being pumped full of hormones and drugs during a time when most women are in menopause. All that estrogen in your system after fifty? Just so you can give birth? I can understand the desire to have a child naturally, but at a certain point I think common sense has to take over. And if it's not her egg, it's not even her own genetic material, so why does she need to give birth? Of course she can do with her body as she wishes--and I hope she has an easy pregnancy and a healthy baby--but it just doesn't sit well with me.

I'm hoping this is part of the Cubby Bernstein thing. Right? It's a Xanadu promo?? Please?

If she can get pregnant she's not too old.
Risks associated with childbearing over the age of 50 include an increased incidence of:
* gestational diabetes
* hypertension
* delivery by caesarean section
* miscarriage
* preeclampsia
* placenta previa.
In comparison to mothers between 20 and 29 years of age, mothers over 50 are at almost three times the risk of:
* low birth weight
* premature birth
* extremely premature birth
* their risk of extremely low birth weight, small size for gestational age, and fetal mortality was almost double.

And there's the fact that her child will be graduating high school when she's almost 70. I had a friend in high school with parents that old and it was really stressful for her. It really seems selfish to put a child through that simply because a 50 year-old woman is having a mid-life crisis. Adopting an older child or becoming a Foster parent would be more responsible.

Cause she certainly couldn't be doing it for the money.

Oh I know all about the risks of having a baby later in life, and of course it's better both for the mother and for the child if it happens when the woman is younger, but older women (and nobody seems to know her actual age, I've seen various estimates, 50 being the oldest) have kids all the time with no problems. And I'm sure - assuming the story is even true - that by now they will be aware of any potential problems. I think Clay's mother must have had his younger brother in her 40s, so he would probably be able to talk to her about any risks involved.
j*, maybe he did it to be a good friend and because he himself wanted a child and he doesn't care what everyone else thinks?

Can't wait to see pictures of the little infant!
As for the age of the mother, it's very risky if it's the first pregnancy and the mother is past 40. Since she's due in a couple of months, they probably would have known of a problem by now. I'm sure her doctor insisted on amnio.

Clay is too pure and wholesome to drink the devil's water.
A good top daddy's, however, is probably fair game.

My aunt got pregnant (not artificially) at 49, and had a perfectly healthy baby. So while the age makes for high risk, it isn't impossible.
As for the Clay factor (which is really where the fun lies)... lol. This is too weird for words.

Wow. The lack of compassion and understanding in this thread is amazing.

I know it's not what you meant, Addy, and it's nothing personal, but I don't really think that just because some of us like it up the butt means we have to approve of every last bit of lunacy out there. Besides, what they've done is totally legal, and no states are out there trying to enact laws to prevent this from happening. Who is the laugh really on?
For those of us who do things society doesn't accept, we're often derided for the detrimental effect we'll have on the "children." As was already pointed out before, I'm not sure a parent who'll be a senior citizen long before this kid gets out of grade school is necessarily in the best interests of the child.
No one tried to rally us behind those polygamists. The expectation of moral equivalency simply because two different things happen to fall out of the expectation of "normal" isn't fair.
Clay Aiken is a freakshow. He sold his soul to American Idol and its spoils, so much so that he feels he's got to be an 30 year old eunuch in the public eye. He's cagey to the point that its laughable, yet he doesn't seem to get the joke. Now he's inseminated some middle-aged woman with a dude's name. It's a little funny, at least to me. But it's schaudenfraude, I guess, because he really skeeves me out.

Pregnant at fifty - there's more artificial going on than the insemination.

I think he's completely into the sensationalism of being famous now. It didn't take him long. I could believe he did this for the publicity, no matter what kind.

I dunno. A guy fathers a child at eighty and he's virile. I'm sure that there is an age for motherhood where even I draw the line, but I don't think fifty is it. Yes, it's a higher risk pregnancy, but aren't many these days?
I just don't really see the problem here. A woman-man-woman baring his/her pregnant belly on the front of the Star is a publicity stunt.
Maybe this really IS just friendship, even if the denizens of BWW don't approve of the individuals involved.
