I know it's not what you meant, Addy, and it's nothing personal, but I don't really think that just because some of us like it up the butt means we have to approve of every last bit of lunacy out there. Besides, what they've done is totally legal, and no states are out there trying to enact laws to prevent this from happening. Who is the laugh really on?
For those of us who do things society doesn't accept, we're often derided for the detrimental effect we'll have on the "children." As was already pointed out before, I'm not sure a parent who'll be a senior citizen long before this kid gets out of grade school is necessarily in the best interests of the child.
No one tried to rally us behind those polygamists. The expectation of moral equivalency simply because two different things happen to fall out of the expectation of "normal" isn't fair.
Clay Aiken is a freakshow. He sold his soul to American Idol and its spoils, so much so that he feels he's got to be an 30 year old eunuch in the public eye. He's cagey to the point that its laughable, yet he doesn't seem to get the joke. Now he's inseminated some middle-aged woman with a dude's name. It's a little funny, at least to me. But it's schaudenfraude, I guess, because he really skeeves me out.

Posted: 5/30/08 at 12:14amI think he's completely into the sensationalism of being famous now. It didn't take him long. I could believe he did this for the publicity, no matter what kind.

I dunno. A guy fathers a child at eighty and he's virile. I'm sure that there is an age for motherhood where even I draw the line, but I don't think fifty is it. Yes, it's a higher risk pregnancy, but aren't many these days?
I just don't really see the problem here. A woman-man-woman baring his/her pregnant belly on the front of the Star is a publicity stunt.
Maybe this really IS just friendship, even if the denizens of BWW don't approve of the individuals involved.

I admit that I was rude and crass, and the comments I made were inappropriate since I don't know the people involved. It could be exactly what it's presented to be.
But I still maintain that isn't what it looks like.

Cut to 9 months time to discover Clay coming round having fainted on the delivery room floor....
Clay - 'eww what was that thing...?'
Midwife - 'Your Child!'
Clay - 'No that thing it came out of'

So many things ran through my head at once:
Closet Cases are so whacky.
He's going to have a baby? Wow, he's not showing a bit yet.
Some people should not duplicate - Clay is one of them.
Clay: If you want to do something nice for the kid when he's born - come out , be yourself and set a good example for your kid.

Posted: 5/30/08 at 9:57amI really don't think it's the issue that they are doing something society doesn't accept. It is the rather unusual individual components of this particular case that are most amusing. But as I said before, I have seen the stress and difficulties of a child being raised by parents 50 years older than themselves and I stand by what I said.

I didn't see it as condescending at all. That's not really Addy's style. I don't particularly agree with her in this instance, but I don't think she was condescending anyone.

Matt said what I was trying to say there, with a lot more clarity and simplicity than I can muster.

Oh...I don't know. I mean, there's certainly a 'freakshow' aspect to it. But not really more so than the Brangelina Babython that we've been subjected to for the past several years. I think that everyone who sells their family life as part of their career is turning their private lives into a carnival. And, frankly, I'm suspicious of ALL Hollywood relationships. At least from the get-go, we know they're 'just friends.'
It kinda reminds me of what my mother said recently. My mother, a very traditional Catholic woman, was up in arms over Oprah celebrating Halle Berry's pregnancy on her show. She thought it was a terrible message to send to girls and women about unwed motherhood. I was like, 'But she's 40 and loaded. Why should she have to wait? She can raise a child just fine on her own, without the need of a man because she's completely self-sufficient.'
In a world where we celebrate the Duggars having their 18th (EIGHTEENTH!!!!) child, this doesn't really strike me as all that insane. But it is funny cause Clay is...well...Clay!

I adore Addy and I get what she's saying. I just wanted to clarify that I'm not being totally flippant about the situation.
I dont like your condescending tone!
LOL That's a little pot/kettle, wouldn't you say?

Yeah, but with Angelina kissing her brother and wearing vials of blood around her neck, she pretty much lays her lunacy on the line, you know? Plus, she and Brad actually acknowledge gay people.
Oh and maybe it's not Clay's baby after all!

Wow. If the child is--God forbid--stillborn will there be a funeral with a glass coffin so TMZ and all the celebrity gawkers can see whether or not it looked like Clay?
Don't groan--Jean Seberg had to do it when her stillborn baby was rumored to be fathered by a Black Panthers leader.
