In all seriousness, since they had absolutely no idea what he was going to say up there, he should have used that time to talk about those views and how this changing Republican party needs to look at reality and adopt them as their own if the party is going to have a future.

I oddly know a lot of Republicans like Clint, especially in my family and especially in Upstate NY. Pretty sure most of them hate all the Democratic Presidents from Carter up, including hating Hillary, and most of the Kennedys (JFK and RFK do have some fans in the conservative base though Teddy's the whipping boy). Love Reagan, respected elder Bush, and only now acknowledge the embarrassment of W.

Most of them just are against what the Democrats stand for on economic issues and go completely mum when the Republicans go to town on social issues despite many of them not giving a crap what Planned Parenthood does, what is on PBS, and whether or not their kid's teacher is gay or not. But Obama's push for healthcare lit a fire in them that made them completely not care about social issues but this thing called 'socialism' that they were taught to never like or accept, even if they are getting Medicare.
