We need some fun Colin stories to share.
I'll start.
One time, I saw Colin in RENT. He went on as Mark. After the show, I was standing outside talking to some friends when I noticed a very, very tall man with curly hair come out. Upon further inspection, I realized it was Colin Hanlon. I saw him stop to chat with a couple of girls. I thought, "Hmm...maybe I should say something." A minute later, he was still talking to the aforementioned girls. "He's really cute," I thought. "I really need to say something." A minute later, the conversation between Colin and the mystery girls ended, and he soon turned and walked my way. "Now's my chance!" I thought. "Say something!" Colin ambled over in my direction with his hands in his pocket and head cast downward...coming closer...closer...and before I knew it...moving farther...farther away. He turned to the left and then crossd the street, never to be seen again. The boy didn't even look both ways before crossing the street. All hail Colin Hanlon -- he doesn't even have to look. Cars gladly yield for him and his golden locks. (I realized that's a pretty New Yorkerish thing to do...you all cross the street so confidently without giving the slightest bit of care to oncoming traffic. I admire your bravery).
Now I'm back in California, lamenting the fact that I chickened out. Probably one of my most vivid memories of that particular trip to New York is the image of Colin's retreating back crossing the street (with hands in pocket and head cast downward). It's practically seared into my head.
Yeah. Pretty much the worst story ever. Which means some of you guys have to compensate and share a better one. I'm really sorry that you probably wasted the last minute of your life reading that. It's a minute you'll never get back, I know. I feel terrible.

That was FABULOUS!
My 4th time at I Love You Because, I wanted to wait outside for him but didn't want to seem weird or stalkery, I had already gotten a picture with him exactly a week before. So I sort of lingered outside with my friend, not in front of the theater, but a little ways down the sidewalk. I saw him come out, froze, saw him look in my direction, and I just turned around and practically ran away. I freaked out. And I probably looked like a psycho. haha.

Posted: 3/26/06 at 11:35pmUnfortunately, I don't have any good stories of encounters. I'm looking forward to filling that gap in a few months (when I'll be able to hopefully see the show again). But I have some wonderful and very vivid memories of performances.

Posted: 3/27/06 at 2:38amI saw I Love You Because last week, and you can add me to the Loving Colin list! He was really good in the show, a major highlight, so I was glad to see him. He can sing for sure, and he was adorable.

I saw him understudy Roger in RENT last summer. From 'One Song Glory,' Jeremy cracked his way through it and I knew they were going to replace him. I was upset, of course, until this tall, blonde creature walked out of the wings and stood in line looking criminally stunning in the Roger getup.
Then he opened his mouth.
So, yes. I'm a fan. A big fan.
And my friend and I waited outside hoping to catch a passing glimpse. We did. Then somewhere deep in my belly I found the nerve to say, "Colin, you were wonderful!"
Politely, he turned and smiled and while walking backward into the Manhattan night he said, "Well, hey thank you very much ladies. Thanks!"
And then I died.

Posted: 3/27/06 at 1:42pmWhen I saw ILYB, Colin was the last person to come out. I was hanging around in the lobby with my friends not to get pictures, etc but because I just genuinely felt like telling the actors how much I had enjoyed the show. When Colin came out he had his jacket on and looked like he was in a rush so I decided I wasn't going to bother him...and then my pushy friend jumped in front of him and yells "WAIT! YOU CAN'T LEAVE UNTIL I GET YOUR AUTOGRAPH!" I've never been more embarrassed in my life. I'm never taking her anywhere again.

It's volunteer. My 4th time at the show, I was talking to some of the people that work there at intermission - when I mentioned it was my 4th time, they were shock, and the house manager gave me his email and told me "If you ever don't feel like paying to see the show, just come down and usher." So that's what I do. And let me tell ya - it saves me a lot of money!
It was cute, also - after the show that day, as I was leaving, the guy at the concession stand who I had talked to called me over, and had put together a gift bag for me with some of the mechandise. For being their first "groupie"! I knew this obsession would pay off eventually! Haha.

Posted: 3/27/06 at 6:37pmWow I'm getting in on the Colin lovin' a little late. I have not been stalking him as it seems, but have managed to see him as both Roger and Gordon in Rent. I also saw him in I Love You Because a few weeks ago. I really enjoyed him in all three roles and think he has a great tone to his voice. Plus, he's a cutie. I met him after I saw him as Roger and he was very polite.
Fan: Oh my god! You're, like, standing right there and, like, looking right at me and, like, oh my god! Anthony Rapp: Yes, that's a pretty accurate discription of reality.

I haven't been stalking him either....I don't think...
But seriously I will be forever jealous of anyone who saw him as Roger.

Posted: 3/27/06 at 6:40pmSeeing him as Roger was my first Colin Experience. Saw him as Gordon and then Mark. He'll remain the best Mark I've ever seen.

I remember when I went to ILYB I went with a crazy Hanlon stalker fanatic and when he came out of the theater she was too stunned to even stop him and almost let him slip away into the night...
I need a Hanlon Rent boot too!

Alright guys. I have a story!!
First off: AMAZING show tonight. The best of the 6 times I've seen it. They were videotaping the show for a B Line (which I guess is like a press reel? Correct me if I'm wrong.) So the whole cast was just DEAD ON.. their energy was so high. It was really amazing. It was a completely packed audience too - which made ushering a little difficult, but I had help, so it was cool.
So, after the show, I clean up the theater and stuff. (And by the way, I hope none of you ever leave your playbills on the floor. They add up for us poor ushers!) I had to write down my contact info for the house manager... sort of lingered in the lobby waiting to see if there was anything else for me to do. Went and got my purse from his office, came back out, and saw Colin on the other side of the lobby. I, of course, got my typical lovestruck look on my face. The house manager walked by and saw... and knowing I was a huge fan of Colin's, was like 'Ohhh, I see..... do you want me to introduce you?'
I then said NOOO...... well, yes. But NO! Okay yes.. No.. YEAH!
So he brings me over. We wait for Colin to finish talking... and then he says 'This is Kerrie.' Colin SHAKES MY HAND and says 'Hi. I'm Colin.' (I wanted to be like YEAH YOU ARE!!!) I told him I was a huge huge huge fan and that he was great. He said thanks. I said I was an usher, volunteering.. and he was like 'Great! So you can see the show!' And I said 'Yeah! For free. It saves a lot of money!' We laughed.. and he went to go talk to some other people, and said 'Well, good to see you again!'
I then thanked the house manager profusely, ran outside, and DIED.
I think Colin *may* have recognized me, since I sit in the front row every time I see the show. But now he'll definitely know who I am... especially since I'll be ushering at least twice a week.
Oh man oh man. I'm never getting to sleep tonight...
