I'm looking for colleges right now. I'd love to go to New York, but most schools up there are very expensive. Do you all know of any that are not outrageously expensive (we're talking less than 30 a year) that would be good to get basics out of the way at? I'm not only looking at the city--but I'd like to be somewhat close. Thanks in advance! :)

I don't think the words college and cheap should be in the same sentence.
My books for this semester alone were about 230$.

OK, not cheap--but not as pricey as say NYU or Hofstra, which are, what, 40-50k a year?

sorry for threadjacking a moment but Parks, I was at the Wedding Singer tour today and there was a 2 people sitting behind me. They seemed to know someone in the cast (which they did) and they seem to have been in many shows at their school. I began to chat with them... the guy reminded me so much of you. As soon as I started to talk to him, I thought of you...I don't know if I picture you the same or what but it was quite odd.

Thanks for pleasing me...

I went to Wagner which is on Staten Island.... great school... expensive, but GREAT school. awesome theater department
Marymount Manhattan seems to be less expensive than a lot of others. But that's just tuition alone.
thank god for French citizenships.

Marymount and Hofstra are the 2 I've really been wanting to go to for a while.
Yeah Marymount is nice.
Although, they put a lot of emphasis on the dorms on the East Side...but those are only one of the options and naturally you have to pay loads more. I think a lot of kids make a mistake and don't do their research properly and end up thinking marymount manhattan equals upper east side.
Re: Marymount Manhattan, a friend of mine went to Marymount, I think the tuition is about $20,000/year, however you have to watch out for the housing costs, which will run you like $6,000/semester or so.
Here's a hint though: My friend was a RA. She got free housing. She thought planning the 'Fall Fling' and decorating the elevators with arts and craft snowman was totally worth the trade-off.
WOW! YEAH it is!
Can RAs be underclassmen?
RA's are usually sophmore +
You could always try pretty much any SUNY school. Which, if you're on Long Island would include Stony Brook (which is sort of far out), Farmingdale, Old Westbury, etc... There's also Long Island University/CW Post.
There are other colleges on Long Island as well, like Molloy, Five Towns, St. John's University, St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn and Patchogue campuses), Adelphi etc.
I never have and never will understand the appeal of Hofstra. I live on Long Island, my dad went there, many people I went to High School with went there, and I cannot name one person who actually liked the school. I'm glad Liverpool did, but that's the first I've ever heard someone say.
Personally, I went to college in Manhattan and commuted in from Long Island but those are some colleges on the island you could always look into, because I'm not overly familiar with their prices as I'm actually out of undergrad and in grad school now.
Edit: I don't know how you are academically, but there are always scholarships. I applied to several Long Island schools (including Hofstra just because it was close) and was offered academic scholarships to all of them. Like I said, I don't know anything about your academics but you can always hope for that.
Hunter College, Brooklyn College... Any of the CUNYs, really.
From my experience, Hofstra is scholorship happy. I had like a 2.5 in high school and they gave me an academic scholorship (i did get a 1300 on my SATs though so that was probably the reason). But yeah.
If you're interested in SUNY schools there's also New Paltz and Purchase, which are about an hour-ish out of the city.

Two words: Financial Aid. Worked wonders for me.
Hofstra really is scholarship happy. They gave me an original offer of like 1/4 my tuition, and when I turned it down they upped it to about 1/2...but I didn't want to go there so it didn't matter. That was back in 2002 though, so who knows what they do now.

I'm still applying to Hofstra anyway because they offered me a free application :-P.
Thank you for all of these ideas! Keep'em comin if you've got'em! :)

First off - do you have any idea of what you'd like to study?
I graduated from SUNY Purchase and I cannot say enough good things about that school. It's truly the bargain of a lifetime
yeah, mine was in 2003. And I know other people that got there after me that were getting scholorships. Plus the drama department there offers activity grants (they aren't much but if you help out around the department you can get a few hundred extra dollars here and there and every little bit helps.

Probaby a busines er marketing major, I think.
D2 sent me a PM suggesting that I take a look at the Fashion and Technology Insitute of New York--it's in NYC and it's supposedly only about 20-ish a year. Anyone know anything about it? I can't believe I didn't know about it before.
