"The Olive Garden restaurant says it is canceling all of its scheduled ads on Letterman's "Late Show" for the rest of the year."
I think there can be no greater irony than the Olive Garden disassociating itself from something because of "Bad taste."

Posted: 6/18/09 at 2:38pmOlive Garden and their sister restaurants Macaroni Grill and Red Lobster are bad taste terrorists. You wanna have that Olive Garden flavor? Make some regular pasta, badly, and then pour an ENTIRE SHAKER OF SALT OVER YOUR PLATE, mix, then serve.

Posted: 6/18/09 at 2:51pmOh Borstal you scared me. I spent YEARS on the road as a weary business traveler. Macaroni Grill was like an oasis of taste compared to the other chains clustered around the off-ramp. I haven't been to one in years and feared that the dreaded OGre had taken them over- Nope. The original founder has sold out, but they are still the Anti-olive. Not fine dining, but for years, the only chain I'd actually look forward to eating at.

Posted: 6/18/09 at 2:54pmReally? I have never had a meal at Macaroni Grill that didn't make me sick (though it was a favorite catering idea amongst all my friends for their parties). I do enjoy Red Lobster, however. Those biscuits are divine.

Posted: 6/18/09 at 3:11pmThe biscuits are fine, but then the actual seafood comes out! (having grown up in a big shrimping area, I'm very picky about my shrimp)
re: Coming Soon:Top 10 reasons to avoid The Olive Garden#13
Posted: 6/18/09 at 4:05pmFor some reason, I'm not picky about shrimp, but my dad has been a saltwater fisherman for over 40 years (and some freshwater; he and his best friend were recently interviewed for a St. Louis area radio program featuring fishing in Ely, Wisconsin) and I grew up only eating de-boned fresh fish, so I am VERY picky about fish, which is why I rarely ever order it in restaurants. If I go to a seafood chain, I only order shellfish or maybe catfish filets.

FYI - If anyone is interested, you can listen to my dad's radio interview online. Just click the link and select the 5/21 Thursday Fan Outdoors Hr1 segment. They are featured in the second half of that particular segment. My dad is the one doing pretty much all the talking (with a little shout-out to me). ![]()

You kids are lucky today- everything is on the internet. I had to learn it all out on the streets. Or, in this case, in a movie theater showing an early John Waters film.

Olive Garden may have pulled their ads but they still have to pay for them, even if they are not running them. Yeah real smart. Also found this.
Olive Garden disputes report that ads were pulled from Letterman
A spokesman for the Olive Garden disputed a report from Politico that the restaurant chain pulled its advertising from the David Letterman show due to jokes about Sarah Palin?s daughter.
?Information reported today by Andy Barr of Politico regarding Olive Garden?s advertising on the Late Show with David Letterman was erroneous. No authorized spokesperson for the company confirmed the information in his report,? said Olive Garden spokesman Rich Jeffers in an email to The Vote.
?The Olive Garden media schedule is planned months in advance. The schedule for the Late Show with David Letterman was completed earlier this month. We take all guest concerns seriously. And, as always, we will factor those concerns in as we plan our advertising schedule in the future,? he continued.
Jeffers has not yet responded to an email asking if Olive Garden advertisements will continue on the David Letterman show.

The real reason to avoid the Olive Garden is the bastardization of Italian food. They take two dishes and combine them and think it's awesome. Lasagna Rollatini, wtf?
I'm waiting for them to come out with Lasagna Raviolis. It's a ravioli with thin internal layers of pasta.

Posted: 6/18/09 at 5:05pmI made a lasagna rollatini recipe that I got from Everyday Italian. I am not saying she's legit either, but the lasagna was fantastic and the presentation was much more beautiful than typical lasagna.
re: Coming Soon:Top 10 reasons to avoid The Olive Garden#22
Posted: 6/18/09 at 5:28pmI avoid the Olive Garden for various reasons, one of which being that I don't even like authentic Italian, let alone bastardized Italian...but more importantly, I don't go there because of those horrendous commercials. I want to poison every one of those smiling, laughing family members. Do they translate their "scripts" from another language and then speak them verbatim? They're TERRIBLE.

The latest (?) one about a girlfriend having her boyfriend meet her friends is pretty f--ked up. It's like "I wanted him to get to know everyone while eating horrible Italian food!" Oy.
Anyway, the last time I went to the Olive Garden I distinctly remember the food was a bit too salty for my liking.
