Just to let everyone know...I live on the West Coast...and we already had it on NBC, MSNBC, etc...so I believe it was live. And, yes, Kanye was uncensored, as well...
Larry King just quoted Kanye West and asked Jesse Jackson what he thought about it.
I also live in Los Angeles, and watched it on CNBC. But thought it was airing at 8 tonight.

Namo,
I did indeed watch the show this evening. As I did not record the show, I will not challenge you on the semantics of whether Mr. West said "hate" or "does not care for". As you recorded the show and have Mr. West's exact words, I have changed my original post to reflect those words. I still think the tenor and delivery of those words were very hurtful at a time when our country should be rallying TOGETHER. Truly, I am not President Bush's biggest fan, but that is besides the point. I stand by my opinion that Mr. West used poor judgment in the content of his televised statement this evening.

The problem is that the Bush administration's policy all along has been to politicize everything. He has already polarized the nation as never before. There's no way now to step back from that. I didn't see the show, but I'm glad someone had the guts to say what a lot of people are thinking.
This is a headline on Drudge:
KANYE WEST ON NBC FUNDRAISER: 'GEORGE BUSH DOESN'T CARE ABOUT BLACK PEOPLE... They're saying black families are looting and white families are just looking for food...they're giving the (Army) permission to shoot us'... Actor Mike Myers asked people to donate... then Kanye West went on a tirade about Iraq... MORE...

I usually hate Drudge, but at least he reported this . . .

One man saying what was in his heart. He wasn't screaming. He wasn't out of control. He was speaking his truth and that of many Americans.
To follow-up on Chita's info, here is a transcript:
Mike Meyers reads off prompter … switches to black singer, Kanye West:
“I hate the way they portray us in the media.
“If you see a black family it says they are looting if you see a white family it says they are looking for food.
“And you know that it’s been 5 days because most of the people are black and even for me to complain … I would be a hypocrite because I would turn away from the TV because it’s too hard to watch. I’ve even been shopping before giving a donation and so right now I’m calling my business manager what is the biggest amount I can give.
“And just to imagine if I was down there, those are my people down there. So anybody out there who wants to help with the set up, the way that America is set up to help … The poor, the black people, the less well off as slow as possible. I mean, Red Cross is doing everything they can.
“We already realize alot of the people that could help are at war now fighting another way and they’ve given them permission to go down and shoot us.”
(Mike Meyers tries to get back on prompter, reads from script and then camera cuts back to Kanye. He pauses before
Kanye West: “George Bush doesn’t care about black people.”
Then camera abruptly switches to another black actor, Chris Tucker who dutifully reads off prompter …

Kanye West is a rarity - a celebrity who is actually in touch with how "real people" feel. He's a rapper who's words actually say something more than the usual crap about pimps, ho's, drive-bys, and weed. Rappers like Snoop Dogg have become cartoons. Kanye is the real deal.

I just watched the video on the link provided by Chita. It's wonderful. It's what live television exists to do. Moments of honesty like that make the rest of all the crap practically worth it.
I'm watching on the West Coast now, and coincidentally the Mike/Kanye portion was airing right as I opened this thread for the first time, 30 seconds ago. Now, it's a quick cut from Mike's plea for donations right to Chris Tucker.
I was watching as well, and yes..they cut to Chris Tucker and left out whatever the "Bush doesn't care about Black people" saying was.
The first portion of his speech was powerful enough, however.
I am happy to see that this concert was done somberly, and showed news reports and interviews with the victims throughout the program.
I agree, I thought the telethon was done tastefully and somberly. Is NBC also taking part in the Sept 9 telethon?
ETA: What did Rev. Jesse Jackson have to say about Kanye's comments?
