I went to a private, religious high school but never saw any of the gays being kicked out. And boy oh boy were there some gays. I did see a girl kicked out because she got pregnant. I think the moral of this story is---don't send your children, gay or straight, to private schools and EVERYONE should demand that churches start being taxed, esp. in this recession!

Haven't time to read the whole thread, but my intepretation of the anti-gay passage in Leviticus is that lesbian sex is the only type of sex that doesn't involve one or more involved parties being a dirty dirty sinner. Thus also proving that God *is* male, 'cos He's DOWN with the hot girl-on-girl action. :P

Creative Bible interpretation is one of my hobbies. I guess that makes me a bad bad Christian, but if I'm going to hell for wearing a bra, there's no harm in adding to my list of wrong-doings. I don't think I'm going *too* far against the Ten Commandments, and I'm pretty confident I'm generally good enough for Jesus to let me off having a kooky sense of humour. He was the original hippy liberal, after all.

Posted: 2/1/09 at 12:44amVouchers means this school gets public funds. In that case, I am not okay with the girls' being kicked out of school. Even if the school did not get voucher money, I would still be against it. Freedom to educate means an environment where people can be free to learn. You cannot be free to learn in an environment where 10% of your students cannot even entertain the thought to be openly themselves for fear of eternal punishment. Sorry, I can't accept this as a moral or legal decision, and I'm sort of sick to my stomach that y'all (who are usually liberally-minded) can't see that the legal and moral problem here isn't solved by mere libertarianism. These decisions affect the lives of people who need to be protected.

Touch - my breakpoint is absolutely with the public funding issue. If a private institution wants to create their own parameters, I cannot see a reason to stop them - no matter how much I disagree with them.
BUT, if my money is involved, all bets are off.

If the state can't tell them the school their curriculum, or what testing must be complete or how long the school day or school year must be...they cannot govern this.
As Q said: I don't agree, but it is within their rights.
The interesting thought to other religions being accepted to a religious school: they don't HAVE to accept them, they just cannot reject an applicant BECAUSE of it. And once accepted, the student (under most circumstances) still has to attend religion classes....which will be about only the school's religious affiliation.
