Meanwhile, everyone is suddenly interested in revisiting CRASH - its getting a rerelease on Friday and they are showing the Oprah episode again.

Um - nobody in in the industry is buying it and people in the industry don't care what anybody outside the industry thinks. It is epitomy of life in a bubble.
The L.A. Times today wrote off the win as good marketing. That is all the industry is noting - "next year: mail dvds to every member of SAG." End note.

I find it hard to read "conspiracy" into the fact that a movie about racism beat out a movie about gay romance. It could hardly be called a victory for bigots.
Not to mention that this debate is some of the best publicity BROKEBACK could have hoped for. How many people are still debating the fact that CITIZEN KANE lost to HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY, or that 2001:A SPACE ODYSSEY lost to OLIVER!, or that...
