It's inspired casting: Clooney.
And he has the clout to negotiate the rights, which will probably become a hot property again.

After reading all of this, I ony have one conclusion:
Schwartz and Wicked were screwed at the 2004 Tony Awards!
Quit jacking this thread, Lwyr, we're discussing gay Clooney and it's making me happy.
There's a link up at the top of BWW in the news column to a Backstage article about all the gay-themed films being done and it focuses a bit on "The Front Runner."
i think i have to check this book out...
You must, zeppy.
Whatever happened to "At Swim, Two Boys"? I thought it was already in the can with Jamie Bell playing one of the boys.
Yes, Zepka, you do.
For those of you who eagerly await the long-in-development film, check out its website.
The Front Runner
You'd like it, Zeppy. Well written story.
That would be the article I read, bway. I'm SO in-the-know.
Billy Sive...perhaps a blond would look good next to salt-n-pepa George. I have a little thing for that blond lead boy from THE OC...but can't imagine he'd be cast.
Or maybe we can go ethnic! Oooh...interracial love! HOT!
I'm all for interracial love!
Just read the article... I really enjoyed The Dreyfuss Affair. It would make a fun movie too.
We should start a new thread...
done
I am waiting for the re-release/special edition dvd in 2020 when they are able to use state of the art digital technology to fix the awful wigs and aging makeup.
Pardon me as I roll my eyes.
Sorry to jump in so late, but yesterday was a nightmare at work.
I am one of those that liked Crash. I enjoyed the movie as well as many others. But it is odd that the Academy was the only awards group that considered it to be the Best Picture of the year. Until Sunday night, Brokeback was clearly the Best Picture winner time and time again. So I guess the one thing that the radicl right-wingers can choke on is that statistically speaking, Brokeback is clearly the Best Picture of the year, Oscar or not. Crash was thrown a bone and golf claps commenced, but come on, guys. The Oscar and the Chicago Critics are the ONLY best picture awards given to the film? And so many people here don't find that the least bit odd? And The Hapless Pimp song gets a figurine as well? Because they were THE BEST? Serriously, THE.....BEST.....OF.....THE.....ENTIRE.....YEAR????
Was I disappointed when The Color Purple lost? Yes, I was quite angry, but Spielberg topped himself time and again (especially with Empire of the Sun, which was NOT nominated for Best Pitcure).
Was I disappointed when Dangerous Liaisons lost? Yes, but I saw it coming.
Was I disappointed when Fargo lost? Yes, but I was grateful for the nap The English Patient provided.
Was I disappointed when Saving Private Ryan lost? Actually, no.
Was I disappointed when Moulin Rouge lost? Absolutely, but I knew A Beautiful Mind was the brand of cheese the Academy prefers.
But like the article, I was more than disappointed Sunday night. I was angry and depressed. I still am.

If the anger and depression don't pass in, say a day or so, I hope you'll talk to someone about it. It's just not healthy.
Additionally, for everyone who was waiting for this Brokeback win to change everything, I hope you'll use the opportunity to go out and take a hand in affecting the changes you so hope for, if you're not doing it already. If the movie's loss rallies some semblance of "community" (a community I often hear about, but can rarely put my finger on), then perhaps some good will come out of this for all of us.
Ultimately, unless you poll every Academy member who voted, you will never know why CRASH won and BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN did not. Tony Curtis didn't vote for BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN because he refused to see it. Jodie Foster voted for CRASH because she thought it was actually the best film of the year. Ang Lee voted for BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN because he directed it. Charlton Heston voted for something other than BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN because he is a right-wing homophobe.
I suspect that every reason mentioned in this thread is valid, but only for the individual who voted the way s/he did because of that reason.
Ya know...I'm trying to figure out which one of the five Charleton 'Cold Dead...What Was I Saying?' Heston would have voted for.
I'm guessing MUNICH.
LOL robbie ... as I was typing that post, I was going to say for which film Charlton voted, but I could not figure it out either!

I'm guessing MUNICH. Eh, Munich took a lot of flack for being too "pro-Palestenian."
Well, a lot of fundies aren't necessarily pro-Israel either, it's just the stance they take because something bad has to happen with them thar jews in the holy land before Jesus can come back.
True dat.
But it's the film where the most people get murdered, right? Probably with guns. He'd like that.
I'm sorry, I got sidetracked at guns and had an intense fantasy where I used bird shot to off some certain people.
You were saying?

I read this article. I agree with it.
Just one question: Does Hollywood deny the fact that homosexuals make up probably a quarter, if not more, of Hollywood?
I watched the Oscars and only one person mentioned his "life partner" (I hate that phrase).
Where are you getting these numbers from?
Of course you agree...

I'm not getting these numbers from anywhere. How many gay actors are there? More than I can count.
