We don't have this **** in the UK. This is like something you'd hear a hundred years ago. Amazing

You don't have what in the UK? Crazy people? LGBT people? Council meetings?

They got arrested, they weren't allowed to have a council meeting about it all.
Why are you getting at loggerheads? I'm asking sincere questions as I can't believe a serious discussion like the one in the video would be real. I am still wondering if it is actually staged.

Why are you getting at loggerheads?
Because I had no idea what it was that you disbelieved. Of course, that was before you started editing your posts.
I'm asking sincere questions as I can't believe a serious discussion like the one in the video would be real. I am still wondering if it is actually staged.
No, it is not staged. That was established. And yes, the UK does experience anti-gay sentiment. You may have progressed a bit with some laws, but you're not 100 years ahead, nor have you eradicated homophobia in the UK.
see my last post. Discrimination against gays is not allowed here.
I saw your last post and responded before you changed it. And not allowing discrimination does not mean it doesn't still happen. It just means there may be consequences.

Discrimination means that a meeting like the video would never be allowed here. She'd have been threatened with arrest if she wouldn't shut up. I know discrimination still happens here but when it is brought to the notice of the law, it is stopped.
Not long since a couple that owned a bed and breakfast place wouldn't allow two gays to stay over night in the same bedroom.
There was a lot of trouble over it, they said they were Christians and didn't agree with gay relationships. They lost their case.

Posted: 5/11/12 at 4:45pmShe's crazy but not doing anything illegal. Voicing one's opinion, no matter how bat**** nuts, is not something that can be stopped in a free society. She isn't discriminating against people the way the people in your anecdote are- that IS illegal.

This was a public council meeting that invites the public to express their opinions and views openly on policy that is up for vote. People speak for or against the policy in an atmosphere of free speech and are given time restraints similar to a debate. The city of Lincoln was proposing an ordinance of protection for the LGBT community and the public are given the opportunity to express their feelings to the city council. A meeting like that may not be allowed where you live because the law may already be in place. But I'm pretty sure the UK has similar meetings on other propositions up for vote. We don't have a law that prohibits people from voicing their opinions on a subject when specifically invited by the local government to do so. This lady is just pure crazy, but her action is not punishable because the whole purpose of the meeting is to give people the opportunity to speak.

Posted: 5/11/12 at 5:05pmAh, its much clearer to me now. I'm not sure about that here. I doubt it would come under free speech. Its rather like doing something like that about Muslims, or trying to do; they'd be shot down in flames....not literally.

Word salad is an actual thing.

Posted: 5/11/12 at 5:58pmWord Salad (verbal salad): Word Salad describes a very jumbled manner of speaking in which words are put together even though they don't form meaningful sentences. For example, a sentence such as "market dog blue asphalt" -- these words all have meaning but not when put together in this fashion. Schizophrenics often display this type of speech.

And . . .
A tin foil hat is a piece of headgear made from one or more sheets of aluminium foil or similar material. Alternatively it may be a conventional hat lined with foil. One may wear the hat in the belief that it shields the brain from electromagnetic fields; to prevent mind control and/or mind reading; or to limit the transmission of voices directly into the brain.
The concept of wearing a tin foil hat for protection from such threats has become a popular stereotype and term of derision; the phrase serves as a byword for paranoia and persecutory delusions, and is associated with conspiracy theorists.
This stereotype is popular in pop culture, with tin foil hats making appearances in movies such as Signs and Futurama: Into the Wild Green Yonder.
