I find it odd that people are calling Cruise humorless. I don't know about you, but if I was in a professional environment, promting a movie, and standing in front of legions of fans, press, and peers, I would be severely pissed off. What that interviewer did was uncalled for, and I'm glad that Cruise displayed some class and restraint.

He's lucky that it was water.

Now, if they sprayed him with Acid, then he'd have reason to bitch!

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

I just watched the clip and I don't recall him throwing a hissy fit. He calmly asked the guy what he was doing. Immediately after, he went right back to meeting his fans.

I think he handled the situation well. It wouldn't be good to laugh a situation like this off. If he hadn't he'd have set a precedence that it's "okay" to pull a prank like this. Next thing you know somebody'll spraying something toxic or harmful.

Wouldn't it have been funnier had someone tripped him, and he fell flat on his face?

I just watched that clip, and I must say, I think he really handled himself well. I was expecting much more of a hissy fit (the clip they showed on the Today Show was really short, you couldn't really tell how irate he was). But, with that being said, I found it hilarious!!!

But when did New Hampshire become--Such a backward wasteland of seatbelt hating crazies?...I mean, only 40 people actually live there. The others are just visitors who come for the tax-free liquor and three inches of novelty coastline. John Hodgeman on The Daily Show (1-30-07)

I don't know what youo people are laughing about.

I have no opinion of Tom Cruise one way or the other. Cruise started making movies well after I stopped going to them, so I can't really judge his acting abilities.

Sure, he's a closeted gay man, but then half of the entertainment industry is.

I think it's downright childish for people to play a prank on him like that. Yet a whole group of people here think it's funny to squirt a man with water in a public situation. If it was a backyard party it might be a different situation.

The world is becoming a very weird place.

A friend pulling a harmless prank on you is one thing, having a total stranger do it in a professional environment is annoying at best. I felt he handled it well enough -- it was a good decision not to just let it pass -- but maybe it would have been better if he had let it go after the guy apologized.

I can't f-ing stand Tom Cruise (for his recent lecturing of matters he has no right to lecture about) so he can be squirted 'til the cows come home for all I care.

I read he's considering suing the individuals (eonline.com). Please.

broadway86, class and restraint? Seriously? Class and restraint would have been to say "you're an idiot" and walk away. But for there to be arrests and possible law suits and all this ridiculous drama created by it is anything but classy or restrained.

Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

No, I mean what I said the first time. There's more than one way to restrain yourself. What that guy did was embarassing and unprovoked. If a stranger had done that to me at PROM (let alone a premiere, in front of my fiancee, and tons of people), I wouldn't know how to react. Cruise was giving the guy an impromptu interview, and that is how he is thanked.

I doubt that Cruise will press charges. But if he does, I'll be the first to admit that I was wrong.

I hope some of it got up his nose, to wash away all the cloudiness in his brain that Scientology put there.

"Quite a bit of the media reaction argued that Cruise actually comported himself with considerable poise - chewing out the pranksters as ungrateful jerks (he was granting them an interview at the time the fake microphone shot water into his face) and wiping himself off before continuing his chit-chat with the crowd more or less unfazed. For the first time in weeks, he proved that he can actually come across in public as though he were actually human - with vulnerabilities, emotions and a certain amount of class too." - The Independent, Online Edition.

you people are missing the point.
no matter what ANYONE thinks about ANYONE ELSE it DOES NOT justify what happened to Tom Cruise.
it was OUT OF LINE and downright DISRESPECTFUL.
yes it was "ONLY WATER", but again that's not the point.
they had NO RIGHT doing that to someone and if Cruise feels the need to use them to set an example to tell other potential squirters "DON'T F UCK WITH ME" then they just brought it on themeselves.
they should have used better judgement.
