The new Dan Stevens
He should have joined the cast for season 4 as a totally new character.

The New Dan Stevens
Holy mumblefumbler! Quite the change. I think the darker hair color really makes his blue eyes pop. Handsome man.

Posted: 5/17/13 at 1:42pmGOOD! That is the same night the UK airings start. It was extremely smart of PBS to do this since they lost an unthinkable amount of viewers last year to people who watched it online.

AGREE!
...and folks like me, who like to watch the PBS broadcast "live", won't have to hide under a rock for fear of spoilers. (or at least, ALL the spoilers - they never keep it entirely under wraps!)

GOOD! That is the same night the UK airings start.
Are you sure? It's always aired on the UK in the fall and I thought this year was going to be no exception.

Eric,
I hate and love you in equal measure for bringing to my attention a gay-themed film starring Allen Leech. I generally feel I'm too old to get all swoony over actors, but hubba hubba zing zing, baby he got everything!

Posted: 5/17/13 at 2:19pmI still think it's premiering earlier in the UK. I thought they were doing the same format as past years, with eight or so episodes plus a Christmas special.

ITV's site says returning in 2013?
I ain't picking a fight or anything, because I'd love all of Christendom to get to watch it at once, but I haven't seen anything saying it's coming late in the UK. This seems like the exact same setup as previous seasons.

This from the shows Wiki page: "The series is set to air in the autumn of 2013 in the UK while there will be a 5 January 2014 airing in the US on PBS."

Unfortunately it is airing this year in the UK and then in January in the US. I just don't understand why they would do this. They lose viewers and those who wait to watch it have pretty much everything spoiled before it airs (especially this past season). Doctor Who used to do the same thing and now thankfully airs the same day.

The only part of last night's season 4 finale that was too improbable, for me, was Lord Grantham being a part of breaking and entering. Even if the reason was to spare the Prince of Wales, I just couldn't imagine him being part of such a thing...
Otherwise, I thought it was a sweet episode.
We're so used to dramatic season finales, that this felt different. But I liked the lack of high drama, in a way.
I do wish they'd find a way to do away with Barrow, who still needs to pay for shooting his own hand in Season 2 (in my opinion)!
I like the way the 'times are changing' and have loved the evolution of clothing and the household amenities. (Electric light, telephones, appliances, etc).
I'm already missing spending Sunday evening with some of my favorite characters.
And am Team Lord Gillingham in Season 5!

Thanks for bumping up the correct thread, Addy!!
Here are my thoughts:
I don't know, I felt like I was watching a completely different show last night. The jump in time made the episode a bit too disjointed for me, especially as it took place in the same season.
I actually wish they had cast someone less well known in Shirley MacLaine's role. She was too distracting.
Thomas really wasn't given much to do this season. He would start things, but nothing came to fruition, especially with him telling Lord Grantham about Branson having the school teacher in the upper level of the house. Like I do with every episode, I'll go back and re-watch. I know I dosed off a bit during the first hour. I did like the non-dramatic ending
Then there's an issue of continuity. I recall when Rose was first introduced, she and Anna got along quite well, so well in fact that she taught Anna a dance. Then in last week's episode, Mary asked Anna to step outside while she had a word with Rose, yet, there was no acknowledgement between the two (not even a nod) as Anna exited Mary's bedroom.
