Can't they leave well enough alone.
MTV is apparently doing a remake of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." It is in partnership with Lou Adler, and Fox Television, and will be a two-hour remake, using the original screenplay.
Say it ain't so!

Hmm, not sure what to think about this.
And as for original ideas, I'm sure I could think of a few, but would they be good ideas? Probably not.

I'm not one who feels things shouldn't get 'multiple takes'. I mean, why not? It could be interesting to see a more faithful take on the dark nature of the stage piece.
But I STILL wouldn't want to be compared to Tim.

With the costs of producing television shows, movies or even theatre, people feel safer banking on something known rather then risk their money on something new and groundbreaking.
Or perhaps it is just that the people who green light projects don't have any creative vision of what could be.

It just really depends on what they are redoing and how it is done. For example, I did not mind the remake of "Cheaper By the Dozen" because the movie was at least tolerable and sort of fit what happened in the original. Granted, the original was not a modern setting. Now, I absolutely hated the remake of "Yours, Mine and Ours," because it did not follow the original very well, and it was just stupid. In the one family in the remake, there were so many adopted kids that it sort of ruined the idea of the original.
That being said, I feel remakes are usually okay if they do not ruin the idea of the original.

Well first of it's truw that there is nothing new under the sun.
having said that, RHPS is a unique phenomenom that can't be repeated. The camp factor as it relates to a love of cheesey 50s sci-fi will be totally lost on todays audience.

Marianne, the "remake" of Cheaper by the Dozen was nothing like the original. It took the general idea "a family has 12 kids" and made up a story to go with it.
Sorry for the threadjack, I loved the book when I was a kid.

If they were really clever, they would have a couple attend a midnight screening of Rocky Horror, get hit on the head with a flying toilet paper roll, and suddenly find themselves IN the movie as Brad and Janet.
IF they wanted to be clever.
Which they don't. They just want to use the same script and make some money.
And I agree... I pity the fool who steps into Tim Curry's stilettos.

Posted: 7/24/08 at 9:43amI read on Bloody Digusting that Marilyn Manson was being considered for Frank-N-Furter.

Posted: 7/24/08 at 10:34amI agree with NPH. Seeing what he did the MCs character in Cabaret, I can see him being Frank.

Problem is, they'll all be compared to Curry.
And will likely be doing a Curry imitation too. Unless they get someone like Alan Cumming, who could "reinvent" an iconic role yet again!

Posted: 7/24/08 at 10:46amThe thought of Alan Cumming as Frank and NPH as Brad seems interesting. Anne Hathaway as Janet?

If MTV is doing this I can't fathom Alan Cumming being involved.
They will want to cast young people. Perez Hilton as Frank would be an MTV execs ideal scenario. Ugh.

From DListed - their fearful cast (I think only half in jest):
Pete Wentz as Dr. Frank-N-Furter
Ashlee Simpson as Janet Weiss
Zac Efron as Brad Majors
MTV star Tila Tequila as Magenta
MTV star Parasite Hilton as Columbia
Brooke Hogan as Rocky Horror
John Norris as Riff Raff
Benji Madden as Eddie
The casts of Real World and Road Rules as the ensemble
It would make me cry...

OH NO! I have to start the day off by throwing up?
Shame on Lou Adler. He must be money hungry or something. YOU DO NOT MESS WITH ROCKY HORROR.
The only person whom I could stand to watch as a new Frank is Joan Collins, lol. Tim Curry reminded me so much of her characterizations.

Posted: 7/24/08 at 11:13amI said it on the other board -- but Heidi Whozits and Spencer Whatever for Brad and Janet!

that Dlist cast is hilarious!
But Benji Madden as Eddie?
Maybe John Popper, but he's not hip enough.

Frank N Furter -- Faye Dunaway
'Nuff said.
#24re: Damn It, Janet, Can It
Posted: 7/24/08 at 11:17amHmmm...Marilyn Manson. Now that's not a horrendous idea. It could be a real horror version of Frank instead of an extremely appealing one.
