It will be interesting to see how far his "Aw, shucks" routine carries him. Dame is right, he's been at this for years, so the naive act, though well played, is far from genuine. He may, in fact, be a good kid, put what we're seeing is an act.

What exactly about the fact that he did someone else's arrangement makes him phony? Everyone on idol does other people's arrangements of songs. I'm not following the logic.

What I get from him is that he is a naive, sheltered little mormon boy from Utah who has performed all his life but, is probably blown away by everything that is coming his way now. Either way.. this kid is very tlented and I wish the best for him.

He is a phony. So pre-calculated . Gorgeous voice.. but boring. I hope he goes soon. The tears were pathetic and the comment he made after his song last night was vomit inducing.

Touchme,
Of course there is really nothing wrong with that. Except when you take credit of it as your own. Something he did in the show and in the after show ET interview.
He is just so pre-calculated and his aw shucks thing is all a act. The crying last week and the pandering for votes last night was sickening.

I don't think he took credit for the arrangement of Imagine. I never heard him say anything about it other than why he chose to sing the third verse. And I never saw him cry about anything. And I didn't find his comment about why he sang Another Day in Paradise to be insincere.
So what if he's seasoned and been doing this for several years. Good for him! At least he's passionate about it and knows what he wants to do. His star quality is undeniable and I find him completely refreshing.
It just goes to show you that you can't please everyone. Someone will always find a reason to dislike you.

There will always be a few who find it fashionable to be in opposition with the majority.

First of all.. he did lie. He was interviewed in one of those shows for a puff piece last week and he did lie. TMZ ran with it. But you can also read the LA times article that is linked in this thread. And if you missed the crying act last week then you were not watching.
Nothing wrong with being seasoned and that he has been doing it for years. He is still phony.
"There will always be a few who find it fashionable to be in opposition with the majority."
Because the majority is never wrong right? ( BUSH)
Just curious.. what is the age range on this thread?

everyone here wants to see him get the boot and have a meltdown on live TV like that girl a couple of weeks ago. You can deny it on this thread, but in your greasy little hearts you know you're rooting for the drama.

I'm just OLD, let's say, mafia.
My not being his biggest fan is not a choice to be "fashionable." He's just not my cup of (decaffeinated) tea.

Wow- can't ya just say "I don't like him" without having to "Prove" it because he's a phony? "The Crying act" is particularly ridiculous thing to say- He's 16 years old for crist sake. I've seen high school kids cry after having to leave someone they hung out with all day at a speech tournament. Of course some of them get chocked up when their roommate gets booted off the #1 TV show in the country. Like him, hate him, I couldn't care less- but don't prescribe ulterior motives to every move the kid makes without a shred of inside knowledge. It's a TV show- they are all "performing".

I've never liked him.
Like I said earlier, a person can't get by with just their talent. There's nothing behind the pretty voice.
