Is anyone participating in the Day of Silence tomorrow? I am. My school's GSA is relatively disorganized, however, my friend and I organized our school's participating in the Day of Silence tomorrow. We are just hoping that people, other than ourselves, participate. Is anyone else doing it? What/if anything is your school doing for the Day?

Posted: 4/25/06 at 9:50pmI was going to, but my Spanish teacher is making me do a skit, and she said if I don't do it, I'll get a failing grade.

Posted: 4/25/06 at 9:54pmOverthemoon6--I know that at my friend's school they are doing it so that you can talk to participate in class, but not during so called "pleasure periods." As in, students aren't talking with friedns or for the sake of talking.

Kudos to all of you who are taking part in this in your schools. Who knows? Perhaps some unsuspecting bigot will want to know why you're being quiet and give you the opportunity to educate.

Last year was the first year my school had a GSA and we decided to create one a week before this day. Coming from a small VERY conservative town I was very pleased to see that all of our 200 ribbons were being worn my students and staff, as well as tons of other people asking for them after we ran out. My teachers were very understanding and I didnt speak all day, until the breaking of scilence party at midnight. I will be doing it again this year, though im not in school. It's great so many people are doing this.

Posted: 4/25/06 at 10:48pmI'm doing the Day Of Silence. It hits home for me especially because I have a few bisexual and gay friends, and I want to support them and everyone else whose voice is never heard.

I'm doing DoS with my school's GSA, but on Friday - we have statewide standardized testing tomorrow, and lucky me, I get to go take an AP Biology final. *eyeroll*
The past couple weeks we've been decorating shirts (w're all wearing orange). We meet in the morning to start the silence and pass out speaking cards, which explain why we're being silent. We gather after school to break the silence. On Saturday, we're having a party with some other schools in our area as well to talk about our experience and such.

Posted: 4/25/06 at 11:23pmwe don't do it till after school, but there's still plenty of people around. i think one of the interesting byproducts of not talking all day is you realize just how much you DO talk in a day, because you have to listen to it all in your head. if for no other reason than that, i think everyone should try DoS at least once... maybe then stupid people would shut up. lol.
