ETA: Abby, an assault weapon is basically any of the automatic weapons. Guns that coninuously fire and reload as long as the trigger is pulled and there are bullets available. A machine gun is one of the many guns classified as an automatic weapon. A Semi-automatic reloads the bullet automatically but won't fire until the trigger is released and thepulled again. ALL OF THESE WEAPONS AND THEIR HIGH YEILD CARTIGES SHOULD BE AND WILL BE OUTLAWED! Now go to beddy bye.

And I know what an assault weapon is, but fingerlakes, and most other people on this board, don't seem to realize there is a big difference between automatic and assault weapons. Not all assault weapons are automatic. Some are sure, but definitely not all. Automatic weapons are basically illegal already, they're almost impossible to get. The weapon used in Connecticut was a semi-automatic, not an automatic.
Strict gun laws didn't work in connecticut, what makes you think it's going to work if every state is that strict?

And jane, I think you have some growing up to do. On the other thread you said you don't know much about guns, so why exactly are you arguing about subject you have no information on except what you hear on the news? Have you even shot a gun before? Or are you afraid of them like everyone else on this board?
