SpiderDJ, I'm sorry you are going through this though period in your life, especially during the holiday season. I suffer from depression and there are programs, groups and services out there that can help. There are even online communities geared to those suffering from it that help them deal with it.
One of the strongest things you will ever do is seeing and acknowledging that their is a problem and now that you have take that next step and do something about it.
I wish you all the best.

I'm with everyone who says you need to figure out a way to get some help. Do some research, find someone you can talk to for no or low cost, someone who is trained to people who claim to be suffering from depression.
And as for medication being a last resort, I don't agree with that at all. It should be a doctor's decision when you should go on meds, but I speak firsthand as someone who is glad I didn't wait until it was a last resort to take them.
Are you still out of work? What do you do with your days? Do you get out? Exercise? Job hunt?

I stand by the notion that medication should be a last resort. It can be very dangerous. And not everyone who takes it needs it.
I would also be careful that the doctor is prescribing it for the right reasons.

Which is why you should see a PROFESSIONAL instead of taking advice from strangers on a Broadway message board.
And let's not even get into the the MILLIONS of people who "self" medicate with liquor and drugs...

I wish the rest of the world were as cavalier about their advice for all sorts of afflictions as they are with their advice for mental illnesses. No one ever thinks treating diabetes with medication is a last resort.
If you do need meds, spider (I don't know if you do, but you do need a shrink), I hope you get them before you kill yourself. They won't do you any good then.

Posted: 11/24/07 at 9:56pmOh, I wouldn't kill myself. I have been to a therapist but I am about to move so when I get to my new home next week, I have to look someone else up.

It may take a while for them to have any affect or you may find that the first one prescribed is not for you and you have to start over. Just because you don't feel better overnight is no reason to be discouraged. It is a process, one that may take a while, that will have its ups and downs, but ultimately you will find some treatment that works for you. It takes courage, dedication and lots of support.

Aw, thanks Jane
I am moving to Beaufort, SC for about a year or so. I am going to try to save to move up north towards New Jersy/Philadelphia area. That is my goal . . . and I will try to reach it.

Sweet Q wrote, "You have a wife, don't you?
Seriously though, biting a pillow (or something or the like) helps me sometimes."
Why do I think the issue is right there for all to see?
I also think people toss around the word "depression" often when it doesn't even apply. A licensed mental health professional is necessary to assess you and to see if you fit the diagnostic criteria for depression.
Group therapy might be warranted. A support group, probably not.

Namo, what the hell are you going on about now? Are you saying we can't be depressed unless Dr. tells us we are depressed?
And are you suggesting Spider bite a pillow or his wife?
