I think this is a terrible shame, and I wish The White house had been kept intact.
That said, when we put it into perspective… such as his predecessor enabling genocide, or many of the other events listed in the "how evil have American presidents been" thread, it ranks pretty low.
There's bigger things we should be focussing on more.

It is yet another example of his wanton misuse of power and questionable or corrupt financing, so I think it is fine that it gets a bit of the focus for the time being. It is not as if it is the only thing people are talking about.
The extra attention it may be getting in the moment reflects the highly symbolic nature of what has transpired simply because one man called in a wrecking crew.
Knocking down part of the White House, ordering the National Guard into cities led by Democratic mayors, killing killing people on alleged drug boats ... all are variations on the theme of a President feeling free to act without any genuine accountability to anyone for anything.
Update with this NYT article.
Headline:
"Amid the Rubble of the East Wing, Lessons in How Trump Exercises Power"
Sub-hed:
"From the first day of his second term, President Trump has taken an ends-justify-the-means approach to his presidency."

Very well said. So much so that it bears worth repeating word for word.
The phrases that I've bolded are the exact sentiments I was mulling about posting, also. SteveSanders, I'm so, so honored to both read your posts, and to share your views.

My mom was born in D.C. and spent the first 14 years of her life there. Her father worked for the US government. Mom passed away a few days ago (the reason I haven't posted on these boards in a long time; she was very sick) and though I miss her terribly,I am thankful she did not see this terrible thing. She and my grandpa would've been as heartbroken as I am. I get more disgusted every day. :(

And all this is the **** that do not care that you know about, imagine what they don't want you to know about... but will eventually be found out by leaked Slack messages at some point.
