There has been a joint press release from Walt Disney Parks & Resorts and Fox Filmed Entertainment that they have announced plans to open an Avatar-themed land in Florida’s Walt Disney World, inside of the conservation-themed Animal Kingdom park. Cameron even teased that the park would involve settings from the upcoming Avatar sequels: “With two new Avatar films currently in development, we’ll have even more locations, characters and stories to explore,” said the filmmaker.
I guess Disney was never upset with Cameron when he copied the script of "Pocahontas" when he created this film. I am not sure about this idea. What do you all think?

Cameron must have payed Disney a huge amount of money to use the script of "Pocahontas," but he won't admit it.

We all know what you're up to Cameron. For your sequels you are probably going to use the scripts of "Mulan" and "Tarzan."

I guess Disney was okay with Cameron doing it because they might have done it themselves:

At least they're putting it in Animal Kingdom, Disney's least interesting theme park.
I always gave that title to that awful Disney Studios park. Small, cramped and only 2 worthwhile attractions. And if you don't have a Fast Pass and get there when it opens, you won't even get to see those. Personally, I think Animal Kingdom is their most beautiful park to date. I fell in love with it instantly. And I think Avatar is a HORRIBLE idea for the park. The dinosaur area was already stretching the concept thin, but this is just stupid. If anything, it belongs in Disney Studios so they can possibly turn it into a worthwhile park. As it is now, you have to stay at one of the resorts, get there before the park opens, run to the Rock-n-Rollercoaster, then the Tower of Terror, then LEAVE. The rest of your day will be shot in overcrowded areas wasting your time to be disappointed. Unless it's the first park you visit of Disney's ever in your life. Because it certainly won't get any worse from there.

I know that this thread was from September, but I thought about it today because I am doing a class on children's literature and we read a book about Native-American people and then we had to discuss how it was more politically and historically correct than 'Pocahontas'. Even though most elements from 'Pocahontas' are used in 'Avatar' there are also many similarities between the 90's animated film 'FernGully: The Last Rainforest' and 'Avatar'. Look at this video:

And still we are talking about how people are ripping off Disney movies?!
You do realize that most Disney films and characters are ripped off from the Grimm Brothers stories, don't you? Disney just managed to claim most of the characters as their own.

I'm one of those purists who hates to see Disney reaching out to non Disney franchises, but it does bother me less when it's not in the Magic Kingdom parks (and I adnmit I love the Indiana Jones ride, although Star Tours has never done anything for me but I haven't been on the new version). I admit I was hoping we'd finally get the Mythical Animals part of the park or whatever, but I kinda get the reasoning behind this...
I'm still more pissed they closed Snow White's Scary Adventures, even if the more family friendly version added in the 90s has always seemed kinda half assed to me. Thank God the superior (despite that ending) '83 version at Disneyland will stick around much like they still have Toad.
Kad I'm confused--the Avatar part is going full steam on.

Yeah, Avatar was another Pocahontas with blue cat people and obvious CGI trying to look real.
To put a themed land based on the movie in Animal Kingdom of all places just makes me want to laugh and then forget about it.
