There's this one chick in my cast that is always on the phone and many speculate that she is probably talking to her voice mail just to look important.

Usually only to avoid talking to people.

I remember days
Or at least I try
But as years go by
They're sort of haze
And the bluest ink
Isn't really sky
And at times I think
I would gladly die
For a day of sky

And Starbucks will use the words 'large' and 'small', not pretentious crap like grande and tall.

I have also done it to avoid talking to people.

I've never fake-talked on a cell phone to avoid someone, but I have whipped it out (so to speak) to make it seem like I'm busy with something.

The iPod also works wonders when trying to avoid something you don't want to talk to.

my friend once pretended to talk to someone on the phone when she was with someone to avoid talking to them-- and in the middle of her "conversation" with her mom, her phone rang.

This explains something to me:

My train ride to Manhattan is 75 minutes long. On numerous occasions, I've sat near someone (usually female) who chats on her cellphone for the entire duration of the ride. I've often wondered how the person on the other end could keep chatting for that length of time. Now I know; there's no one on the other end!

Dolly, you usually don't get reception underground...so unless your on the overhead (like in Queens) the ladies are talking to themselves.

I've done the ipod thing as well. It's rather useful when you have inteions of eavesdropping and you act as if your really into the song.

The train is only underground for the last few minutes of the trip.

Yeah, I thought there was something creepy about too, until I saw how many people responded to my thread and that they do it. I may have to start.

I don't because I'm usually walking around in such a daze that I don't even notice if people are trying to talk to me. Granted, when my phone actually rings I usually don't realize it's mine... I keep changing my ringer to obnoxious rings that I actually enjoy.

i did it once when there was someone i really didn't want to talk to, now i just use the ipod instead as it's easier and you don't run the risk of it ringing while you're "talking"
