A whole new generation? You mean a completely different generation than the one thatbought the OBC a year ago? It would be pointless to do that. Neither of them are big enough names to record the show AGAIN. Only musical theatre whores would be buying that record. And believe me, I would be the first in line.

Don't get me wrong...I'm a bigger fan of both Shoshana and JLT than Idina and Kristin, but I don't think thats going to happen. It's pointless, and like bjive2 said - "Only musical theatre whores would be buying that record."

I seriously don't think its going to get re-recorded. The best bet for a different recording will be if it ever opens in London, with a British cast. If Shoshana and JLT were absolutely huge names (outside of the BWW boards, that is) then maybe...

Very few shows get re-recorded (and especially when the Wicked OBC was a huge hit and was only released like a year ago) and when they do its for big names.... and Brooke Shields. :)

First of all, it would be really weird for people who go see the show with Shosha and JLT (hold the mayo!) to buy the cd in the lobby and be all, "Who are these girls singing on here?" So, for one, that's unfair. And b) the people who went to see Idina's last two shows but got Shosha instead were disappointed but from what I heard, everybody loved her. So it would be good word of mouth if they could say, look, the people who came wanting Idina bought the Shosha version of the cd. I mean, it's just something to think about.

Etoile, I like that pre-order idea, a LOT.

The Brooke Sheilds recording is really really strange to me.

Of course, if the show were going to continue to run changing the program, recording, merchendise, etc. to fit the new marquee star would make some sense. But the show is losing 20 days before the recording is issued. It seems a waste to issue a new recording with a less accomplished singer when the show is closing anyway.

This "replacement" recording thing is new. Replacements up until the '90s wouldn't dream of recording their tracks over their predecessor and getting their own album. The first album to do this technically was Company, but still that was not advertised as an alternative cast recording, it was advertised as the London cast album for besides Larry Kert and a few cast members, the casts were the same. I guess the recording was made to give Kert a recording of his own. Of course he WAS the one who got the Tony nomination, so his absence on the recording must have bewildered some patrons.

So I would have to say that the chance of a record of Wicked with Jennifer Laura Thompson and Shoshana Bean is highly unlikely.

But they're at the Gershwin eight times a week!

Actually, it's in Brooke's contract that whatever show she replaces in gets re-recorded, and I understand her version of the Grease! revival (the one with the exlcamation point!) sold very well. From what I understand, higher ups in the Wicked production office are considering the rerecording very seriously.

I'm with DGrant -- this thread is hysterical for all the different levels of awareness and seriousness (Namo, you kill me!).

And while we're on the subject, just who on god's earth would buy a cast recording of Wonderful Town with Brooke Shields? Those Weisslers -- marketing geniuses ("Let's spend six figures recording an album with a washed up sitcom actress who can't sing, who'll be in the show for three months, still deliver mediocre box office numbers, and then release the album three weeks before we close the show altogether .... CHA-CHING!").

It cost that much? Jeez. I woulda thought they'd just delete the Donna tracks, and have Brooke sing her bits in Babydaddy's apartment in Brooklyn where the first Scissor Sisters album was recorded for real cheap dollars.

Anyway, I hope they do re-record WCKD because then it will be like all the versions of Coke and then they can increase their WCKD market share.

I wouldnt Mind it. Im not a huge Wicked fan, but the score is decent. The OBC Recording is henious. The minute I bought it, I wanted then to recall all of the albums, and make it again. Its just an aweful recording! I also like JLT's voice better than KC's, so Yes, I am in favor of re-recording the show, although it wont happen.
