Incidentally, my advice to the caller: If your husband allows his friends to call you "N*gger" get the hell out.

How's that T.V. show you went for goin', Dr. Laura? Are you the new Oprah or what?
Fox News Ignores Laura Schlessinger’s Racist ‘N-Word’ Tirade

Honestly, her use of the N-word doesn't bother me all that much in this context.
What does bother me is the dismissive condescension she uses with this caller. Now that's racist.
Isn't this the same woman who started off the funny " Why Can't I own a Canadian?" letter? The one that was over the internet and turned into a scene in West Wing?
If that is the case then I am not shocked to hear this coming out of her. Do I think that it is wrong? Yes, but that doesn't mean that I am shocked to hear this.

I'm not sure the internet letter was based on her, Winston, but this West Wing scene sure was:

That's odd. I was always under the impression that, while she said those things, the letter and the scene from the West Wing was like the chicken or the egg. That it isn't clear which one came first.

The internet letter most definitely came first. I love Aaron Sorkin, but he is an excellent thief.

Remember Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip? That year at the Emmys, Tina Fey remarked "Did you see Aaron Sorkin? He's wearing the exact same dress I am only his is twice as long and not nearly as funny!"

Aww. I loved Studio 60 - but Tina spoke true enough.

Thanks for that, romantico. That pretty much backs up what Borstal said - that Dr Laura apologized for the wrong thing.
She also said, "Don't go all NAACP on me". Did she apologize for that as well? Has the NAACP responded? Any petition to her sponsors, just let me know. I and a bout a dozen or more of people I know will gladly sign it.
While I am not defending Dr. Laura’s use of the ‘n’ word, (it was obviously wrong, even if she was trying to make a philosophical point) I have to agree that sometimes there are instances when situations can be confusing.
I don’t think there is anything wrong with asking, “What does the black community at large think of (whatever subject).” Could it be asked another way? Certainly. Does it make the person who asked that question a racist? No.
Why would it be necessary to ask that sort of question? Well, from my experience hanging with plenty of African Americans I often hear them making remarks as if they are speaking for their race. The comments range from social, political, religious to the absurd for comedic affect. And it has always been done with me around in a conversational setting. Sometimes I ask myself, I am allowed to say something or just let the subject pass?
In fact, for a while we were not allowed to call people ‘black’ because many took it as a slight, so we had to call them ‘African Americans’. Recently, I asked my wife a question and used the word African American. She looked at me like I was being silly and said, “I’m black”. (Oh yeah, I should have mentioned earlier my wife is black and I am of Spanish decent, although everyone thinks I look ‘white’.) So there is sensitivity issue for a lot of people even when no offense is intended. When people ask about my kids I say they are mixed; half white/half black.
As a married couple the issue of race has been something we had to work through. Hurt feelings happen on both sides of the issue, but we do our best to see each as individuals, the core of who we really are.

The lady didn't call to ask Dr. Laura how Barack Obama got elected or how race relations were changed by him doing so. She didn't call to ask what Dr. Laura thinks of Chris Rock or Richard Pryor. She called because of a problem with her husband: "We've been around some of his friends and family members who start making racist comments" and Dr. Laura's response was "I think you have too much sensitivity and not enough sense of humor."
That's why the bitch is crazy.

This piece of crap is a Racist! I hope she gets fired!
Thanks for posting that ghostlight, that is one of my favorite scenes from West Wing.
On Monday, left-wing group Media Matters joined GLAAD, the Women’s Media Center, and Unity Journalists of Color to insist that advertisers pull funding from the show.
The homophobic racist is playing the victim card complaining that the media was responsible for 'compounding the damage' by choosing to 'rebroadcast my error again and again and again.'
Yeah, if she really felt it was the media's fault why did you apologize you dumb ho?!
