I don't think it has to do with protection of naive youth on here either - I just don't remember that being the intent to create the Adult board anyway. The original post said:
"The Adults ONLY board would be theatre, world and life experience related discussions, without regard for the young ears and eyes that are always watching and listening and interjecting into the adult threads."
So I always perceived it as a separationist idea. Aside from the "Can the adults please smoke" thread, are there any other any other adult-exclusive threads? And are there any young ears and eyes that bother to interject on there? Again, if the idea is to bring some maturity to the boards, than maybe we need to set up more parameters, not necessarily to censor anyone's posts, but to encourage more intelligence and thought to go into them. Not to mention controlling the threadjacking on here. (And I admit that I used to be a pretty bad threadjacker but I understood the detrimental effect it can have on provocative and insightful discussion, so I stopped and tried to get my friends on here to do the same.) As a cusper with older friends and younger friends on here, it seems unfortunate to create further divide.

Beav, well, in defense of the Over 35 Hottest thread (and I do agree with you in questioning the motives on here), the "Hottest BWW Men/Women" were all young members whose cliques were voting for them, so I interpreted the Over 35 thread as a way for the older adults to get some superficial recognition.
PS. Grannyrath, did you throw out that hip?

Aww, Beav, I understand. And I'm sure you look very hot today too.
Ellie, I think both of us have single - er, double - handedly made Rath change her mind about this whole Adults Exclusive board idea, and maybe up the minimum to 40 years and over.

I thought it was Nick Nolte.
And did I JUST preach about needing to take control over the threadjacking, as I have?
Oh, the irony.

Honestly, I can't believe this topic is even in discussion.
This is a site about BROADWAY. Sure, there are some shows that may have adult content, and yes, I know there is an "Off Topic" board, but please! If you have to chat about smut so much, that you have to have it here on a BROADWAY message board, I think you have a problem.
If you have to talk about adult matters that much, then go seek out a chat room with no rules and have a ball.
Leave BROADWAY WORLD about BROADWAY.

Posted: 2/22/05 at 2:49pmIt depends on the cost. If it were dirt cheap, I would do it. If not, no way. I think it's tolerable the way it is.

i just think its dumb to pay for use of a forum just cuz its adults only. whether or not I think we could or should pay to support the cost of running this site is an entirely different issue. it doesnt take that much effort to make a forum password protected or invite only, and you cant really do background checks on us, you have to rely on the info we give you (assume we supplied the correct birthday) at most youd have to make a separate terms of service for the board and i doubt it would create much more conversation, just different conversation in a different spot. Im making my decision from a more rational stand point knowing how little effort it takes to make adults only forums (hell i run two on one of my runboard forums) and less about how much I want to talk to this particular group of people about adult topics. I think this group is more than capable of moving to a new locale (many came from bway.com boards) and if this board allowed adult convos but required fees, we could just as easily have a forum elsewhere for free...

I won't speak for others - but in consideration of some of the views expressed here, I'd like to say this on my behalf - I have a fabulous time reading the posts of and interacting with some of our younger members, many of whom I have pointed out over the past year. The thought that they are younger only gets put into context for me as pertains to trying to understand their viewpoint.
So, among many others, a big 'I'm glad you're here' to Priest, Spider, Shira, Ellie, Judy in Disguise, Emcee, Liam (yes, Liam), and especially the gov'na.
Frankly, there's probably many that I like a lot but have no idea if they're young, old or somewhere in between - which ALL of us are, really, in one way or another

I wouldn't disclose it, except she herself just said she was 19 on a different thread.

I agree with DG. One of the things that is most special about BroadwayWorld is the presence of the teens and 20somethings, whose passions are inspired by the theatre of today, and we 30- and 40-somethings, whose passions were originally inspired when we were in our teens and 20s, even though we can be equally as passionate about contemporary shows.
I love reading the wars between the young Wicked and Avenue Q fans. It reminds me of the arguments my friends and I had about A Chorus Line vs. Chicago or Sondheim vs. Jerry Herman. (I was a fierce Sondheim partisan, and my personality was profoundly affected by the original productions of Company, Follies and A Little Night Music, which I saw multiple times, and the movie The Last of Sheila, which I memorized.)
The kids who idolize Idina should only know how I idolized Alexis Smith and Angela Lansbury. The internet just makes it easier to argue--but it also makes it easier to learn.
I especially love reading Sondheim posts by young posters like Governor Slaton, luvtheEmcee and Stick to Priest. Their knowledge always amazes me--and thrills me.
I think the board self-regulates fairly well as is. Namo's idea about a school thread makes more sense. I'm not sure the Internet paranoia is necessary here. I don't believe the gay men on the board hit ever on the teenagers. I remember the playful banter about Zola and Cats--it was all about his 18th birthday, and it was just talk. Perhaps the flirting between the straight men and teenage girls is more worrisome, but someone else would have to speak to that. I don't speak that language.
All in all, I think the teenagers on this board are remarkably savvy and able to take care of themselves--often a whole lot more mature than the adults (myself included).

Posted: 2/22/05 at 4:41pmI would just like to add a "minor's" opinion here. I understand that some people want to be able to talk about whatever they want without the "minors" reading it. However, just think about all the younger people who add so much to this board. What would Broadwayworld be like without people like AG or priest or emcee or governer or bwaytheatre...I could go on for a while listing people who are key factors to the boards but are underage.
