Next you'll want to sell condoms with the BWW logo.
Now *that's* a great idea.

Jose, I have to say that I have always admired you and looked up to you.
I cannot say that I do anymore.
Of course, I still highly respect you, which is more than you grant me.

It was meant in jest, Plum. I've already got mediums to admire Shirtless Hugh and Jason. It's called my bedroom.
Ellie, of course we will. Em, Plum, you and I are all legal anyway. We're just egalitarian too.

One is intended to be sexy and the other isn't- there is a difference, however prudish you may find it to be.
*goes to stand by Priest, Tiff, and Co.*
And I hope I don't ever become so much of an adult I think that I'm too "mature" to associate with the young riff-raff. What do these very sophisticated folk think of the 18-20 year olds who straddle the minor-adult line?

I've read this thread and am struck by three glaring points.
First is that the lack of reading comprehension is a very sad thing. Second are the leap in assumptions that some seem to be making. Which ties into the third point. That the disparaging comments seem to be coming from those who profess a distain for such comments.
And for my own reasons, sign me up José.

I like Namo's idea but it could be a student board.

"To those of you who have written, requesting anonymity of your viewpoint, anonymity is assured."
I don't get the anonymity thing. If someone is in favor of an "adults only" area of BWW, and they decide to join, everyone's going to know who they are anyway. Unless of course, they assume a special "adults only" screen name/identity that differs from the screen name that they use on the main and off-topic boards. Is this going to be some sort of secret society? Will you be able to mail away for a secret decoder ring? It's all sounding so devilishly clandestine.

Curtain, there are folks who emailed to me their opinion on the poll topic at hand, wishing anonymity by not having their opinion on the thread. I'm sorry if I didn't make that clear.
Of course, new screen names and icons isn't a bad idea, either. Thanks for that.
Oh, and anyone who votes "No" will not be allowed to participate, no matter how much is later offer in cash, stocks, bonds or gems to gain admittance. LOL.

Posted: 2/23/05 at 12:48amOh, now. I'm on your side, Priest, but from an objective standpoint (I have no opinion for Jose' either way, although if I'm not mistaken, he's the reason I have ugly avatars instead of my man-alicious ones), but I have a feeling that last part was meant it jest.

Or not reading something that NOT there, between lines or anywhere else.
I find it interesting that there's a belief that to suspect predators lurking here equates to paranoia. Yet to read between the lines for a precieved conspiracy isn't.
Some seem to be posting what they want to believe someone had written, what they want to think is a motivation, and not what has been said.

To be completely frank, I must say I think it is a bad idea.
This feels like "age discrimination" to me, and although I am sure this was not what you were implying, I take slight offense and agree 100% with what Emcee has said. Being a 15-year-old from Los Angeles who has loved musical theater from the time she was 6 and was first introduced to Les Miserables, I have certainly encountered this before. It is true that theatre fans are mostly made up of people of the older age group, and by that I mean older than teen. Maybe it's just because I live in a movie and Hollywood infested suburb in LA, but I find it VERY VERY rare to find kids my age who share my love of Broadway and musical theatre. Therefore I've turned to Broadway message boards to chat and exchange thoughts with people -- OF ALL AGES -- who share my interests. And I love it! =) Without you guys, my obsession with Broadway could very well diminish, having nobody to share the obsession with!
Being the Sondheim worshipper that I am, I used to post over at Sondheim.com. It's a VERY different environment over there than it is here -- completely mature, clean, 99% of the posters were made up of adults who had been Sondheim fans for quite awhile. The few teens or "kids" that DID post, myself included, were deliberately treated differently, and perhaps with less respect, as they assumed we were not "mature" enough to understand or comprehend Sondheim. I completely understand that Sondheim's works are intricate; however I felt the older posters might have tried to help "shed some light" on the younger ones if they had felt we needed it so much, openly include us in discussions and maybe pass some "wisdom" onto younger fans (excuse the cheesiness).
As we know... BWW is not at ALL like this, which is why I love it so much...the diversity of age is what makes things interesting! I've always found the adults on here to be open-minded and as tolerable as possible to the kids... AND vice versa! Personally I think an Adults Only board would only take away from this.
Whew... alright. Done. Sorry for the long-windedness!

Posted: 2/23/05 at 12:58amThank you, dotmarie. But you see, there's evidently two kinds of adults around here. The kind who think their age and experience put them in a position to teach the younger generation, or at least talk to them from a different perspective, and the kind that think their "adult" status makes them some kind of superior species.

Etoile---To say that the board would be created in order to protect kids from predators makes no sense, though. If there were predators, why would they JOIN the Adult Board? They would post on the regular boards.
I just find the whole idea vastly discrimatory and disrespectful to me and others. Maybe I'm just selfish....

Priest, you aren't being selfish.
Reading between the lines isn't necessarily something that's exclusive to this thread. There have been lines to read between for as long as I've been here. This is just another layer of proverbial text.

Posted: 2/23/05 at 1:00amLet me just clarify something- I don't begrudge the legal adults here a place where they can swear and talk about X-rated topics. But like Priest said, part of reading is reading between the lines. I don't like the attitude evinced by some of the proponents of Jose's idea.
#123re: an informal poll re: adults only message board
Posted: 2/23/05 at 1:02amMy problem with it is, while I'm technically an adult, I sure don't feel like one. I don't feel I would really belong on the "adults only" board, therefore I would spend little to no time there. I'm perfectly happy with the boards we have.

My question is: Why an adult theatre board? Is it simply because it gets a little 'adult' at times here? Is theatre really a topic that needs to be separated by age? There are other sites for adults-only, and their topics are more adult-oriented.
Would the discussion be so different on an adults-only board than on this board? I would think that with the relaxed standards, it would become less about theatre and more about...well, other things. I'm not sure how many adults would join, but, say it did become a site where adult theatre discussion was common; the quality of this BWW might decrease. I don't want to see this site become like the West End board.
I'm probably one of the youngest members of this board; if the discussion makes me uncomfortable, I leave. I don't know if others would have the same common sense, but you might want to give them a chance.
Furthermore, do the moderators feel they can handle monitoring the activity on three (or four, if there is a On Topic and Off Topic board on the adults portion) message boards?
I don't know if Jose' counts my opinion, as he has said repeatedly he only wants the opinions of those over-18. I can certainly understand that, as it is they who would be participating. But I find it strange that the majority of people talking on this thread are those who don't want to be included/can't be included. I don't blame Jose' for wanting an adults board (it can get a bit "kid-dy" around here, even for my taste), but I'm not sure it's completely necessary.
