And for the first time since the year 2000, the top choice does not begin with an "M"...

OoOoO, interesting...I wonder what Roeper's choices were.
He has a top 10 but then goes on to honorably mention a further 58 movies. So isn't it a top 68?
Are you telling me that broadway86 is Ebert!?!?
Oh, no, because Ebert picked Crash as the best film of the year! Hahahahahahahahahaha!

Syriana is probably my pick. I love that movie like the son I never had.

Got that right. I did not like that movie. Othan than that, he has some great choices.
And yet High Tension is a well made, intelligent movie.
I think you should see Crash a second time. I just find it unfathomable that there are people that don't like it. But, then, I refer to my thread about how nothing exists that everyone likes and am less unfathomabled.

Crash was definitely strong but I can see why people wouldn't like it. It's not exactly subtle...

W.T.F. I can't believe Monster-In-Law did not make this list.
And where is Wedding Crashers in all this?
Screw Ebert, he wouldn't know good cinema if he was smacked across the face with a reel of film!!
Wow..i've only heard of two of those movies (Brokeback mountain king kong) and only seen one of them.
shows ow into pop culture I am...

I saw CRASH in theatres, and thought it was terrible. I immediately dismissed it.
I then saw it again once it came out on DVD.
I still think it's not what it could be and I hated the pretentious demeanor the film took on. I also thought it was counter-productive to what it was trying to say. It wasn't clear - it was a contrived mess.
That said, I still find the performances amazing and moving.

I've now seen the movie 4 or 5 times and I always cry when Dillon's character pulls Thandie out of the car, and when the little girl nearly gets shot - they're brilliantly filmed scenes.

end of spoilers

Well, yes. I could go much further into why, but it's obvious that you don't want to hear it.

MUNK! SPOILERS! HELLO!
And, I disagree with you that the film is a mess. My mind wrapped around it just fine.
I personally loved Crash. Tisk tisk for those who didn't like it! Updated On: 12/18/05 at 10:34 PM
I love you too, DRS. Go watch a Disney movie, or something!

I loved CRASH. It was such a profound film. Thandie Newton deserves an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress and the movie deserves an Oscar for Best Screenplay (and if it was up to me, Score and Cinematography as well).
Thandie might deserve a nomination, but I don't think she should win.
It's screenplay IS quite good - it should definitely get a nomination.
I love the score, but BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN and GEISHA have better scores, in my opinion.
Cinematography? Um...okay.
I can't believe you are leaving those spoilers there.
Well, who HASN'T seen this movie?
Oh--did it make over a billion dollars worldwide??
Clearly a lot of people haven't seen it. Don't ruin the film for them.
