Not surprised, but he really should have stayed, could have been good for his career. Who do you want to host now? How I hope they bring in Billy Crystal!!

I'm so completely not surprised.

They'll hire a new producer before they hire a new host, unless it's another "packaged pair" to sell another flop movie.

I would love them to expand the Women of Comedy theme that has been so popular, and have Fey, Poheler, Rudolph and Melissa McCarthy do a tag team hosting job.

They've tried to go a younger and more current route with not great success, so I think this is their chance to fall back into a safe pair of hands and perhaps restore some prestige and ratings along the way.

I want somebody who is pretty unaffected but has a sense of humor and a real movie star. I would love it if they could get Robert Downey Jr.

I really don't get the sensation of Billy Crystal as Oscar host. After the Franco-Hathaway debacle I would say he was my least favorite host. The Muppets idea that was thrown around was too good to be true, I guess.

Billy is awesome! He is very well liked and most important to the Academy, SAFE! He is also genuinely funny. He can ad lib. Billy is old school and some may stick up their nose as they did when Johnny Carson hosted and Bob Hope.I am very glad to see him host again and I agree with Taz,ratings will be through the roof.

I loved Billy in "The Princess Bride" and "Monsters Inc" so I can't wait to see him host the show.

With Billy Crystal on board, this is going to be a guaranteed entertaining telecast. He has NEVER disappointed.

Also -- don't be surprised if the Muppets do have a moment to shine during the ceremony. Or two. Or three. Or during the pre-show. Disney owns the Muppets. Disney owns ABC. The Oscars are broadcast on ABC. The Muppets have a new movie, with its DVD release planned in April (one month after the Oscars). I'd bet on Muppets.
