Well, it's quite possible that Bush can win Florida and still lose the election based on current predictions.
Things may swing in Bush's favor in the next couple of weeks. But, I think they will either swing back or merely stay with Kerry in the slight lead electorally--and that is where it counts.
i really really hope that kerry can pull off his "barely" states. it'd make all the difference!

HFISMG, if you have friends or family in the "barely" or "battleground" states, it wouldn't hurt to send out feelers on where they stand and why, make sure they're registered and know what is at stake. Remember....522 votes in 2000!

papa - it's almost as if you're enjoying yourself.
d, i am merely reporting the news and keeping this thread current. i take no joy in the falling numbers of john effin' kerry, but i would be remiss were i not to post them as jrb did. i know he's just too busy to get to making these posts so, i'm just helping out. i'm not pointing out that he's lost about 30-odd electoral votes in the last few days, i'm just posting numbers from the same site that many here have quoted as gospel. besides, as it stands, johnny's still got 270. in a way, i think that those on the left would be pleased that i am making these posts to give them something to rally around.

papa - You really are able to make me laugh like only a few around here can.
I've been reading about Bush's impending appearance at the convention, which is apparently going to be in the round - they think it will show his character as a 'man in the arena.' I'm going to try very hard not to have images of Sebastian Venable go through my head.

gee, d, that puts a whole new spin on "bring it on" don't it?

Just a thought about this whole election process: While it certainly is nothing new, does anybody find it odd that somehow everything seems to keep right on going the year leading up to an election, even though our 'government' is totally focussed on getting itself re-elected? It's an interesting phenomenon when at least 1/4 of your job requirement is self-perpetuation (and that is the VERY conservative estimate - the truth is probably more like 4/5.) How exactly is it that we all continue to go about business as usual while one of our senetors and the president himself are out galivanting around all the time?
which is why the GOP shouldn't continue to harp on how little Kerry has been in DC.
I think we would all be a little bored if the numbers didn't fluctuate so much. And, yes, they may even finally dip below 270 this next week or two.
But, I'm not worried. I think they will bounce back. But, if some theories are correct, election day is going to be nothing like the polls.
But, thank you, papa, for reporting the current numbers for me. I don't get up as early as you, and I have been exhausted with work. You're a gentleman and a scholar. :)
just trying to help, jrb, i knows dat you needs yo beauty sleep.
I have to look perty--to put on that cat head.
that line should not be making me laugh as hard as it is...
sadly, the laughter is all I have left. I squirted out the rest of my dignity in the litter box. And then promptly scratched sand over it. That's ok--after tomorrow I will be moving on to the US Open playing a human!
with any luck, jrb, you'll be playing with andy roddick.
Papa said roddick on this thread.
That entire last name is just entendre after entendre.
BReak it apart, folks. You probably already have.
Oh, yeah, let's be on topic: Go, Kerry! I waited on my first conventioner tonight. He's in town as extra security.
that's just awful, bway. next you'll turn on delta of venus williams!
Come on, Papa, who hasn't thought of that name in that way? Well, probably Bush and Kerry.
Actually, on second thought, they both probably have.

don't they know that these are all lies? i mean everone knows that bush has never read a newspaper. typical that the ny times would be propogating this kind of partisan hack work. for shame.
rcp (realclearpolitics.com) has the average at +1.6% in the horserace both head to head and in the three-way and rasmussen has bush ahead 213-207 in the electoral college with 118 up for grabs.
I just heard the end of Russert this morning, but he said Bush is up in the electoral (especially since the last census when red states have more population), but if WV and NH go to Kerry, the Democrat wins.
That's kind of obvious I guess.
Anyhooooooosers, he did say that the number of swing states seems to be growing at the President's expense. Colorado is fully in play especially with the Senate race there.
August 30 - Kerry 249 Bush 232
With 3 states tied, this is where things stand today.
august 31st - kerry 242 bush 280
ahhhhhhh

There's a chance I made a mistake by not becomming a heroin addict. Something would be nice to ease this pain I'm feeling. And papa, no offense, but it really is a pain I'm feeling. Disenfranchisement is a scary feeling, and one I'm fearing is possibly going to become the norm rather than the exception.
