Well, it's that time of year when many European gay men go extra crazy because once again, it's time for the Eurovision Song Contest. This year we visit Copenhagen.

I know some of you follow the goings on, so I thought I would share the UK entry for this year "Children of the Universe" sung by Molly (she has dropped her surname, Smitten-Downs)

All the usual ingredients are in place, Austria have entered a transvestite called Conchita Wurst and a Russian politician has kicked off saying the contest should be banned because it is a sodomite festival and should not be broadcast in Russia because it promotes non traditional family values. Oh the simple pleasures of a singing competition!

Right, we have friends coming round on the night, so I'm going to prepare our sodomite festival party. A Greek salad, Italian pasta, French wine, but I can't decide whether to leave my Polish sausage whole or slice it.

God, our submission is dreadful this year. I normally like Sanna Nielson, but this song is like a REALLY bad Celine Dion rejection. The lyrics are horrible. There should be a rule. If you are going to write and submit an English song, you really need to have a native English speaker go over it first.

The rumor is going around that Sweden had no intention of trying to win again because we just don't want to foot the bill again so soon. (This is usually the rumor when we think our submission doesn't stand a chance.) Melodifestavalen (the prelim to choose the song) is a bigger deal here than Eurovision. It goes on for weeks and everyone watches. Snack companies have Melodifestavalen themed promotions and sales. It's a lot of fun.

I was born and raised in the UK until I was 9 (early to late 80s), but somehow never heard about Eurovision until the YouTube age. Kinda surprised, because I was REALLY into pop music as a kid and had ghastly taste, so... I mean... perfect demo. So the two entries described above are rather terrible. Anything good on the horizon this year?

I'm rather partial to this Eurovision contender from 1980:

Armenia seem to be favourite to win with Sweden second favourites with the bookies.

I was very proud when Uphoria won two years ago. It was my favorite from the prelims. I can't believe anyone likes Undo. I can't believe it's so favored.

Just played Armenia's entry and my 14 month old went nuts. She crawled up in my lap and happily screamed along. She's all team Armenia, at this point.

I picked last year's winner as soon as they started playing. God, I love Eurovision so much. And Graham Norton's commentary in the UK broadcast makes it extra special. That host last year was unusually great as well.

We're watching the semi-final now and as much as I hate the lyrics of our submission, Sanna Neilson just ROCKED the performance. She really has a great instrument.

So, the entry from Austria, Conchita Wurst, has sparked a lot of controversy, especially from Russia. Because of her, they called the contest a "hotbed of sodomy." She was obviously a crowd favorite in the semi-final tonight. They went nuts when she was interviewed. She's certainly challenging the typical idea of beauty!

I think Conchita is absolutely gorgeous. She literally took my breath away the second she stood on stage tonight. She walked away with tonight's show.

Truly. She is absolutely stunning. Lyrically, her song really struck a chord (no pun intended.) My wife thinks she will win if only for the response to the backlash. People are voting just because she's caught so much $hit.

Conchita is currently the favourite to win with the bookmakers and the fans in Copenhagen, and even I have put a bet on! My only concern is that the eastern European countries will not vote for her. Molly Smitten-Downs for the UK is still riding high with the fans, but so are Sweeden, Netherlands and Armenia.

In our house we are getting ready to host our Eurovision party. I'm preparing a cocktail I've called "Molly-tov" (vodka, brandy, orange juice and sparkling wine) and Greek Mousaka with a German black forest gateau to finish. The bunting is yet to go up, so I must get on and finish the decorations!

Hulmeman - Enjoy Eurovision. I am off to a party to watch it. Will be cheering on UK - fab, Molly will end the show. Not really a fan of the song but wish her well for the UK.

I'm loving Sweden, Austria and Switzerland - the singer is a handsome young man Eurovision Song Contest 2014

I am pulling for Sweden, though many Swedes are saying, "No No! We can't afford it again yet!" lol I thought Sanna did an excellent job.

Booking odds, as of right now:
Sweden 11/4
Austria 10/3
Netherlands 5/2
Armenia 9/1
UK 12/1

Odds are putting Sweden and Austria really close, at this point, with Sweden barely out front.

The show just started and I am going to try, but having started at 9 PM, I doubt I will make it to the end.

The Polish T&A performance annoyed the piss out of me. There were so many more talented performer who should have had that spot. I'd rather have a craptastic dance song than that shiz.

Poland was hideous. Not many of songs are grabbing me so far. Not a huge fan of Armenia. I sorta like Germany though.

I probably could have liked Russia's song ( not the stupid staging) if it hadn't made the entire country look insanely hypocritical.

Right? I would never cast a vote for Russia. I wasn't crazy about our submission at all, then it grew on me. Like a fungus. Now I am a convert.
