Ever had an awe moment when YOU were performing? — Page 2

I just did Sweeney Todd a couple of months ago, and I've got to tell you, our best audiences were the high school audiences. We got a couple of audible reactions during 'Kiss Me' (I was Johanna); ones the adult audiences never had. They gasped and giggled as the Judge and Beadle made there way dangerously close to the couch Anthony and I were on. No one else understood that part like they did. They also applauded when we finally kissed, which really cracked me up. But the best reaction of all was when Anthony kissed me towards the end of the show and the line that follows was "I'll be back before those lips have time to lose that smile." The audience literally awed after he said the line. Those audiences made us feel like we were accomplishing what we had set out to. Those are still the best shows I've ever performed.

I also just recently did a review concert and one night, the girl who sang "Cabaret" wasn't there. They needed the song for time for costume changes, and I had always wanted to perform the song, so I volunteered to sing it. I ended up singing it in the original key (the girl had lowered it a step because she couldn't belt the high notes) with only about 5 minutes of practice with the accompaniment. I walked onstage and the entire cast was standing in the wings cheering me on. It was such a great feeling and I'm REALLY glad I didn't screw up :)

My freshmen year we did You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, and I was Lucy. The part where Linus is obsessing over his blanket and Lucy comes up behind him and threatens to cut into bits with scissors. . . well we wanted to use those giant plastic scissors and we couldn't find any. SO we used a giant plastic butcher knife instead. And it actually looked kinda real. It was like BIG GASP. . . and then uproarous laughter. Ahh yeah that was fun :)

I had a solo in my school's musical revue - "Nothing" from A Chorus Line. I LOVE this song because it tells a story. When I get to the very end talking about how I felt nothing when Mr. Karp died, there were gasps from the audience. It was awesome because it was my first big part in all the shows I've done.

I have also posted on this thread. Last night, I played my first-ever principal role: the Major-General in "The Pirates of Penzance". The ovation after "I am the Very Model" was so long that I actually had to stop it with my next line of dialogue. That was probably the best feeling I have ever had in my life, and a close second was the standing ovation I received when I bowed with Ruth.

Not until my Senior year did I have them a lot.
I was a soloist in "Oklahoma!" for "Out of My Dreams", and I was (and still am) royally pissed that I didn't get the part of Laurey. Anyways, I had always messed up in rehearsal, but opening night, I sounded so gorgeous.

For Senior Showcase, the last hurrah for the Senior Class, I sang "I Can Hear the Bells" from Hairspray. I was shocked at how good I sounded with a character voice- I got a lot of laughs out of the audience.

At a similar event, three other Seniors and I sang "No One is Alone" from Into the Woods. I was singing Cinderella's part and, qutie literally, on the very first line (Mother cannot guide you, now you're on your own), all of us completely lost it. And it made the song that much more flowing and beautiful. By the end, the tears were streaming down our faces, and on the last "no one is alone", we all looked up towards the lighting booth/out in the distance, as if looking towards the future. Very sad, but very touching.

At my last choir concert I had a solo in The Music of The Night(I'm a girl BTW) and I've never gotten that many compliments from a solo in my life. Yesterday my friends in concert choir(I was in womens' choir, but I'll be in concert choir next year) told me they were talking about how great it was the next day and how much better I was than the 3 other soloists. It rocked, because I did better than my "friend" who thinks she's better than me at everything.

The night I went on for Tulsa in Gypsy.

i got a big reaction from my first recital when i sang arti s calling for me and i also got a great reaction from inging glitter and be gay at districts. people kept coming up to me asking me where i was going to school, etc etc.lol.i think it has partial reason to do that im this teeny thing( 5 ft tall) and a big voice.

okay...

i think i can muster up one story...

first time I ever sang in, like, a musical was Once on this Island. I thought i was alright but not too impressive. Next day, my friend comes up to me and says "I didn't know you could sing! I turned my head for a moment and heard this male voice...singing...and then when I looked again I, was like, "Woah! Is that Jeremy?"" so that was cool.

but even cooler was what she said after that. "even though we left at intermission (this show was HORRENDOUSLY bad. ugh.), my friend said "that guy jeremy was the best one. he sings really good!" " kick. ass.

and then for the next week or so, she would just randomly say "you sing really well" or "you sang really well in the play." she once made me sing the green beret song. she kept screaming at me "Sing! Sing! Sing it! Come on! Sing! You have a beautiful voice!"

definitely an odd experience but an experience nonetheless.

I did a scene from Angels in America last year for competition. Its the one in the first part where Harper confronts her husband Joe about being gay. I played Harper and my boyfriend at the time was Joe, and when Harper finally said "Are you a homo?" everyone just kinda stopped breathing. It was amazing. Also when we did Little Shop of Horrors for our musical last year, I was Audery and (suprise, suprise) my boyfirend at the time (same as the Joe character) was Seymor. Well, it happened tiwce in that show: at the end of "Suddenly Seymor" and whem Audery finally dies and is fed to the plant. Its a really great feeling to have...affecting an audience that is...not being fed to a plant...nevermind.

My school was doing a production of My Fair Lady and I was cast as Freddy! I was extremely nervous and I was way off key throughout practices and the director kept telling me he regretted putting me in the production; but on opening night, when I had to sing my song, "On the Street Where You Live", something magnificent burst out of me and I hit every single note and the audience was completely shocked. So when I got off the director, was amazed at my performance and told me that I was wonderful and should be expecting a role in our next production and I should consider a career in voice. I was in a complete state of shock!!
