My biggest issue with the pilot - how bad was that boat scene? the "special effects" were worse than even Buffy, and that is saying alot!!!

I thought the same thing! It almost looked deliberately fake-looking! All in all, though, I thought it was pretty decent. I'll watch it again.

I kept on hearing Ringer's special effects in the pilot were bad so my expectations were pretty tempered on that front. Hopefully some of the visual kinks are worked out in the next episodes. I don't mind low-grade Brian DePalma/Americanized telenovela as a TV option but I do hope it gets a sense of humor about itself, mostly because I think that would play to SMG's strength as an actress.

The special effects in the boat scene were terrible.

SPOILER BELOW if you haven't watch the pilot yet.

My other issue was that the actor that plays Henry (Siobhan's lover) was terrible. I hope he gets killed at some point. In fact, I was disappointed that wasn't the person she shot.

Kristopher Polaha (sp) is that actor. He was actually pretty good on Life Unexpected which otherwise sucked. So hopefully as the show grows he will have more stuff to work with.

There is a lot of chatter out there about the boat scene today. Everyone seems to be having the same reaction. The boat scene was laughable but the rest of the show was intriguing enough to keep people watching.

Sort of makes me think the quality of the boat scene was intentional.

CW is reairing the pilot again Friday night and again on Monday.

It looked nice, and less voluminous at the party when it was put up but all I kept on thinking was Allison Pill's perm in Milk.

That said, I do like Amber's new look.

When it was blown out it looked cute, but what was with the perm? Are kids doing that again?

Amber rocks.

Shows that I'm excited for: New Girl (which I downloaded off of iTunes for free, but I still have to watch it), Up All Night (which I apparently missed the premiere for), Glee, Parks & Recreation, The Office, Community, & Modern Family (still have to watch the end of last season at some point.) I've probably forgotten some, but I'm just really excited to have these shows back!

I literally laughed out loud at the comment about Haddie's hair looking like Allison Pill in Milk because it's so true! I really don't like it, especially with the curled bangs. Amber's hair looks really god though. I'm annoyed with her & Sarah's relationship. I can understand why they haven't gotten over this phase where Amber is annoyed by Sarah, & Sarah is being protective, but it's getting old. Perhaps they should make it more dimensional? Parenthood is a show that I care about & want to watch but I don't care if I've fallen behind episodes.

Okay, I just finished watching The Secret Circle. I wanted to check it out because I loved the books so much when I was younger.

I'm not some idiot who expected them to change nothing but I was rather surprised to find that they has jettisoned about half the characters. And that they had changed the location of the show. The books took place in the fictional town or New Salem, Massachusetts but now live in Washington state.

Ok my updates:

Up All Night - Kinda funny, shows a little promise. I will keep it on the list for a few more episodes. I like both actors so I want them to have success.

The Vampire Diaries - yay! it's back. my pretty vampires are back. However, for a show that usually goes in and out with a bang, this season opener was kinda dull. Some great plot points but no real "OMFG!" moments like in the past. Stefan angst, ugh. Elena mopey & self involved, ugh. Damon needs to cut his hair. But yay its back! Seeing Simon Camden getting all cut up was a nice touch.

Still have to watch Free Agents and The Secret Circle.

We wanted to like Up All Night because we like the actors, but we didn't laugh at all during the pilot. I don't know that we're giving it another show.

We really enjoyed Ringer. I'm convinced the boat scene was MEANT to look like that - a throwback to old 50s movies. Like I read somewhere else, it looked like something in a William Powell/Myrna Loy movie. I'll go with that...the plot was definitely intriguing enough to bring us back.

AV Club posted the pilot (albeit very censored) to Showtime's Homeland. I really liked Damian Lewis and Mandy Patinkin but I am having a hard time believing Claire Danes as a CIA agent, especially in the sho's first few minutes when she seems like an open-secret clandestine operative. Do not really want to blame her, I just thought the writing of her character could have been better. Morena Baccarin plays Lewis' wife who is in a sub-plot that I hope does not drag because otherwise, I thought she was good too.

As for the show itself, think of it as the other side of that old show Sleeper Cell. There is also something of a Manchurian Candidate theme going on. I still think it has potential but it needs to be less sloppy on basic CIA stuff.

'Vowed to never watch TV again when The Closer got axed.'

You know it was not cancelled right? Kyra decided not continue on anymore so the show ended. Hence why they are doing the spin off, to hope it keeps going in some way, TNT would have loved for The Closer to carry on, after Rizzoli and Isles it's their biggest show.

I enjoyed the Ringer, it seems out of place on the CW (much like Melrose Place did, to adult and we all saw what happened to that), i will stick with that one, sadly after pretty mediocre ratings (it was beat a few nights later by The Secret Circle which nobody saw happening) it's gonna have to work a lot to stick around (paring it with 90210 is a terrible idea)

Secret Circle i had no intrest in (im 32, it seemed a bit to teen for me) but i wound up thinking it was OK and had promise.

Up All Night was OK but not that funny, i will stick with it though as i love Applegate.

Free Agents was awful, i liked Outsourced far better, at least it was funny, this just was not. I think the axe will fall on this very early on.

Revenge is good campy fun, hopefully audiences will embrace it

The New Girl i thougt was very funny, best of the new comedy's so far.

Im gonna guess that along with Free Agents, Grimm wil be axed first
