--such phrasing -- who does that kind of phrasing now? No one.
That's because most people don't know how to sing a song, anymore. It's all riffs and runs. People find it impossible to just sing notes and interpret a tune. When was the last time you actually heard someone just sing a song, and not put in 5 or 6 notes, where one ought to be? Sad, really.

Lately it's got to be Here Comes Santa Claus. But I really love the stage coach song at the begging of the film Calamity Jane. Probably for the line "Whip crack away, whip crack away!". LOL
Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps
That's a good one, mistermatt! I have that on some Baz Luhrman CD of mine, and love it.
justme2 - I believe it is on the Strictly Ballroom soundtrack, which is utterly delightful.

Cheese - you make me smile very broadly - and I refuse to believe that your use of the word 'begging' instead of 'beginning' was an entirely innocent slip!

Had to pull this out last night and relive some great memories!
Thanks for reminding me DG.
I need to put that on iPod tonight when I get home. :)
I never saw the boy before
So nothing could be sillier
At closer range his face was strange
But his manner was familiar
So I talked to my Ma like a good girl should
And Ma talked to Pa like I knew she would
And they all agreed on a married life for me
The guy is my guy where ever he may be...
Just put her Christmas music on my iPod.

"Everybody Loves A Lover"
It was her last chart hit, reaching number 6 in 1958.
Who's the most popular personality
I can't help thinkin' it's no one else but me
Gee I feel just about ten feet tall
Havin' a ball
Guess you might call me a Pollyanna
Love that song!

A Burt Bacharach song, Send Me No Flowers...
Ever since the day that you went away
You've been sending Flowers to me......
I wish someone could cull her musical vault, supposedly full of unreleased gems. She covered a Bruce Johnston song called - Let's Visit Heaven Tonight, and it's apparently quite brilliant. With Terry Melcher gone, I doubt it will ever see light of day, at least not in my lifetime...
My favorite: "Please, please, don't eat the daisies. Don't eat the daisies, please."
Now I won't be able to get it out of my head the whole day.
"Teacher's Pet"
I love the title song for Move Over Darling.
