Re: Favorite Golden Girls Moment

My favorite moment is probably when Rose meets that guy who dislikes her, and she has the following conversation with the girls:

Rose: Dorothy, you're the smart one; and Blanche, you're the sexy one; and Sophia... you're the old one. I'm the nice one! Everyone's supposed to like me!
Sophia: Right now the old one isn't so crazy about you.

Re: Favorite Golden Girls Moment

Blanche: Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go take a bath with barely enough water to cover my perky bosum.

Sophia: You're only gonna sit in an inch of water?

Re: Favorite Golden Girls Moment

My all-time favorite episode is the one where they have the Full Moon Madness party and Dorothy kisses Miles. She decided to confront Rose in the kitchen to tell her and decided to use a cupacke metaphor. She uses Miles trying her "cupcakes" to tell Rose, but Rose honestly believes they are talking about cupcakes. Rose says "Nobody likes your cupcakes Dorothy, they're dry and stale!" to which Dorothy replies "My cupcakes are most and delicious, everybody LOVES my cupcakes...wait a minute, Rose, you honestly think we're talking about cupcakes?"

I wish I were better at remembering dialogue as well as you all...

Re: Favorite Golden Girls Moment

So many to mention, but one that always has me in fits is Dorothy's birthday when Rose takes her to the kids birthday round-up at the burger joint. The 'Ronald MacDonald' character says 'Now, when I shout out the names of the lucky birthday boys and girls, I want you all to come up onstage!'. Dorothy looks at Rose with 'that' expression..."!Rose, please say you didn't..." Priceless.

Re: Favorite Golden Girls Moment

Dorothy: You'll have to excuse my mother; she suffered a slight stroke a few years ago, which rendered her totally annoying.

Blanche: I never had to pay a penny in backtaxes. I have a way with auditors. The last time I was audited I even got money back from the government.
Sophia: Blanche, it's not a refund when the auditor leaves two twenties on your nightstand.

And my FAVORITE:

Dorothy: Why can't you sleep on the couch and give Clayton and Doug your room?
Blanche: Are you crazy, what will the neighbours think if they see two men in my bedroom?
Sophia: They'll think it's Tuesday.

Sophia: There's just something I don't like about him. I can't put my finger on it, but if I did, I'd have to wash it.

Suzanne: I never use catalogs. I'd rather go in the store and see all the salespeople groveling and sucking up to you. Julia: Pardon me, I never knew they were so solicitous at the K-Mart.

Re: Favorite Golden Girls Moment

my favorite is Rose's Herring Circus story...

Dorothy - "Tell me, Rose... Did they ever shoot a herring out of a cannon?"
Rose - "Only once. But he flew into a tree. None of the other herring wanted to try it after that."

they must have done that in one take because Bea and Rue's laughter was just too genuine...

Blanche - "Rose, you are making that up!"

Re: Favorite Golden Girls Moment

So, so many:

Blanche: Mel makes me feel young and beautiful and special. When we're together we laugh a lot.
Sophia: Why wouldn't you? You're both naked.

Blanche (to Janet, about God): Oh honey, of course HE exists. Just look at the beautiful sky, the majestic trees. God created man, gave him a heart, and a mind, and thighs that could crack walnuts.

Dorothy: Blanche, what exactly makes you think he's your man?
Sophia: Who?
Blanche: Maybe the fact I found him first.
Sophia: Who?
Rose: What about the fact he dumped you for me?
Sophia: Who?
Dorothy: Laszlo, Ma.
Sophia: Who's Laszlo?
Rose: A Hungarian artist we've all been posing nude for.
Sophia: In the future, a simple 'none of your business, Sophia' will suffice.

Re: Favorite Golden Girls Moment

TheGaIsSilent, I had already thought of my favorite moment when I read your quote- that's one of my favorite episodes. I started watching the repeats of this show when I was 7 years old.

When Rose gets Blanche and Dorothy on the talk show about lesbian couples, Sophia is in the audience and asks Dorothy how her "poor mother" must feel about this. Dorothy answers "I don't know, I'll have to ask her next time I visit her at THE HOME." And Sophia announces that she withdraws her question and sits back down.

Re: Favorite Golden Girls Moment

After Rose has the heart attack and Blanche promises God she won't sleep with anyone unless they REALLY NEED IT if he'll just save Rose. The doctor comes out and tells them Rose is all right, then asks Blanche out. She declines, then looks up to Heaven and says "Oo, you are a vengeful God."

And I love "I am the wolf! Bum bum!" too Re: Favorite Golden Girls Moment God, there are so many.

Re: Favorite Golden Girls Moment

Dorothy: They need an aphrodisiac.

Rose: An African what?

Dorothy: An aphrodisiac. It's a substance that makes you feel sexy.

Rose: Really? Like what?

Dorothy: Like... Spanish fly.

Rose: Spanish flies?

Dorothy: Fly. Fly, Rose. One fly.

Rose: Oh, c'mon Dorothy I've been to Spain. It's not the cleanest country in the world. They have thousands of flies.

Dorothy: It is not a fly, Rose.

Rose: Spanish fly is not a fly?

Dorothy: No.

Rose: What is it?

Dorothy: A beetle.

Rose: They call it a fly but it's really a beetle?

Dorothy: Yes.

Rose: How do they know it's Spanish?

Dorothy: Because it wears a little sombrero, Rose!

Rose: Why don't they just call it beetle? Spanish beetle.

Dorothy: Because they call it Spanish fly.

Rose: Well, then what do they call their flies?

Dorothy: I don't care, Rose! Forget it, I don't care! The minks can just sit there and we'll lose all our money, I don't care. Just don't ever mention Spanish fly to me ever again!

Rose: You're really touchy about these Spanish flies aren't you?

Re: Favorite Golden Girls Moment

Oh my I haven't watched this show in such a long time. But reading these favorite quotes brought back memories.

My favorites were already mentioned: The spanish fly, the Full Moon party episode about cup cakes, and when the girls vote someone out of the house.

Re: Favorite Golden Girls Moment

i love the "break in" ep and blanche tells how she maced herself hehe and i love the mystery weekend ep when dorothy is explaining in the dining room how the killer murdered the two at the table and then dorothy picks up a knife and holds sophia's head like she's gonna slit her throat the look on sophia's face is hilarious "not part of the show people not part of the show!" then...the ep where that guy comes to miami to be with rose but she can't remember who he is (i don't remember the name of the ep) then when he finally realizes she has no idea who he is, he asks her "do you know what it feels like to be this stupid?" then you hear blanche laughing behind the kitchen door and rose pushes the door in blanche's face and you hear "ow!" and...i love the entire ep when dorothy and rose are writing a song about miami...
rose: "miami is nice so i'll say it thrice"
dorothy: "who the hell says thrice?!"
rose: "it's a word"
dorothy: "so is interuterin...it does not belong in a song"
rose: "miami you're cuter than an interuterin"

ok last one...that ep when all 3 watched psycho and they can't sleep then just when they're ready to go to bed sophia runs through the door waving a knife all around hehe!!

Re: Favorite Golden Girls Moment

Just to name a couple (because a gay man picking a favorite Golden Girls moment would be like Cher picking out a favorite wig) :

Dorothy and Rose find out the toilet is too heavy and :
Rose: Dorothy if the Egyptians built pyramids than we could move this toilet!
Dorothy: Fine,Rose get me 20,000 Hebrews and I'll see what I can do.

and another:
The heart surgery episode where they're all on the table as heads
Dorothy : Oh, God we look like a reunion of Henry the VIII's wives!

I remember Bea Arthur speaking about censorship on tv on her "Just Between Friends" on Broadway Cd and she said on the pilot episode that after Blanche introduced her date for the evening , Sophia was supposed to say, instead of "scuzball" , "The man is a deuche bag!".

That one would sure as hell have been a favorite!

Re: Favorite Golden Girls Moment

I still watch this show as often as possible. My favorite episode is where they are going to take a cruise and realize that they should practice safe sex and bring condoms. They go to theirlocal drugstore to buy some. None of them have prices on the package and the cashier has to announce a request for a price check over the PA system. The blonde wants the ribbed ones, the tall one wants the extra large...........etc. Breaks me me up every time.

Re: Favorite Golden Girls Moment

My favorite episode is when they're at the murder mystery weekend and they think Blanche killed someone. There are so many hilarious moments.

(while solving the setup murder mystery, where an old man and his wife were shot and stabbed)
Detective: But (guy's name) was shot.
Rose: Then there must be a gun!!
Detective: ...St. Olaf?
Rose: Uncanny!

(later, after Blanche's boss is found stabbed in their room)
Rose: Maybe that bloody knife will lead us to the murder weapon!
Detective: ...west side?
Rose: It's like I'm wearing a sign!
(those were probably butchered quotes...)

Detective: She then slipped a steak knife into her purse from dinner...
Sophia: Big deal! I took a whole place setting!
Dorothy: NOT NOW, MA!!!
(And then at the end, when Sophia can't pick up her purse and needs Dorothy to do it for her because it's full of stolen flatware.)

Other favorite moment was when they had tickets for Burt Reynolds, accidentally got arrested for prostituion because they were staying at a seedy hotel, and then Sophia, when called to bail them out, denies knowing them and steals the tickets (because they had previously voted her out since they only have 3 tickets).

Yenta - and Rose wants the lambskin, in black. That kills me!

Re: Favorite Golden Girls Moment

could this be the best show ever on television?? I think so! :) You all posted great lines, but I'd like to talk about a more bittersweet, dramatic moment that always gets to me:

It's a flashback of Rose making herself a birthda ycake ,and the nshe proceeds to talk to "Charlie" and tell him that she's moving to Miami. That whole monologue is so funny, weird, sad, and charming I can't stand it. It's really a tour-de-force performance and I think it deserves recognition!!

Re: Favorite Golden Girls Moment

I love that moment, EverythingIsRENT. I also love this one:

Blanche: She walked in on me and William last night. I could have fallen off my headboard and chipped a tooth.

Rose: You think that's bad? She came into my room while Albert and I were re-enacting the plank-walking scene from "Peter Pan".

Dorothy: What the hell goes on in this house at night?!

Re: Favorite Golden Girls Moment

Ooh, and those awfully non-PC episodes of Golden Girls... anyone remember the episode where Michael wants to get married to the older African-American woman? I almost peed myself when Rose and Blanche come walking out of the kitchen in mud masks, see Michael's fiancee's aunt and mother, and walk back into the kitchen.

Since this is BWW, we probably shouldn't forget George Hearn's turn as Foxy Loxy in the Henny Penny musical! Is it just my wishful memory, or does he hold a fork and knife aloft a la Sweeney?

Re: Favorite Golden Girls Moment

I always liked the flashbacks with Bea Arthur as the grandmother and Lynn Greene was young Dorothy.

Re: Favorite Golden Girls Moment

Oh, Lord. There are so many moments that I love from this show. Here are just a few...

- Both of Blanche and Rose's tap dances (to "Too Darn Hot" and "Tea for Two" ) when the three girls take tap and Dorothy injures herself

- Yes, "little balls of sunshine" has already been discussed from the ep when Blanche writes her great Southern novel but my two of my fav. parts are when Rose says she doesn't like the manuscript and Blanche (to paraphrase) says,"What do YOU know about great literature? You're from Minnesota, what do y'all read? Silas Marner? The Sears-Roebuck catalogue?" Also, when she says that Hollywood will never get their hands on her work because she will never have her words coming from "Glenn Close's mouth"

- I also have a soft spot for the Mother's Day ep where each girl flashbacks to a Mother's Day: Blanche with her aging mother at a nursing home, Dorothy asking Stan's mother (played by Alice Ghostley) for money, Sophia (a "young" Estelle... god, didn't you love a good Sophia flashback) with her mother (played by Bea), and Rose's... I can't remember... something about a train station... or something

- Dorothy and Sophia in full Sonny and Cher drag singing "I've Got You Babe"

- The girls singing "Mr. Sandman" with Dorothy as the Sandman's "Yeeeeees?"

- Any episode with the full length theme song is gonna be good

That is all for now.

Zach... "Miami! Miami! You've got style!! Blue skies, sunshine, white sands but the miiilllle!"
