'Miss Durbin and Mr. Pasternack to see you, L.B....'

Ah, thanks Marquise.
They must be the company that made one of my all time favorites - You Were Never Lovelier, but I guess we shouldn't stray from M-G-M = the greatest of them all, here.

The Magic of Rita Hayworth

Thanks Rog. I need my DVD of Lovelier back. It's been on loan for too long. :)

"Didja ever see a picture called COVER GIRL? Who do you think did all the dancing in that?"

"Hey - You're not RITA HAYWORTH?!?!"
"Christ, Bette Davis?!?!"

Lady Be Good

1941's "Lady Be Good" contains a priceless scene where the on-screen husband and wife song-writing team of Dixis Donegan and Eddie Crane (Ann Southern and Robert Young) collaborate on writing a song called, "Lady Be Good."

This is a wonderful bit, if you haven't seen it.

Jose, you are right - that is a great bit where they are working out the words to that song - - - Oh sweet and lovely... blah blah blah blah...
Lady Be Good

I sing for myself. I sing when I want, whenever I want to, just for me. I sing for my own pleasure. Do you understand that?

uh...Girl Crazy..although I have never seen it. I like it cause of the gershwin songs. And Crazy For You is based on it. And I love Creazy For you.

also, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and Victor/Victoria.
<--- the set of A Midsummer Night's Dream that I was assistant stage manager for during the 2007 season at the STNJ outdoor stage.

-Dre-
You must remember all the same that at the crux of every game is knowing when it's time to leave the table... And it's important to be artful in your exit. No turning back, you must accept the con is done... It was a ball, it was a blast. And it's a shame it couldn't last. But every chapter has to end, you must agree.
~Dirty Rotten Scoundrels~

There's a special kind of people known as show people. We live in a world full of dreams. Sometimes we're not too certain what's false and what's real. But we're seldom in doubt about what we feel.
~Curtains~

It is a far, far better thing I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest I go to, than I have ever known.

don't kill me but I loved "I love Melvin"

Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'connor were so cute together...and I liked the songs too.

Norbert Leo Butz quotes about John Lithgow: "He's really clumsy. One of the joys in life is to watch a great big huge man totally wipe out backstage. It takes John about three minutes to hit the floor. It's like watching a Great Sequoia falling gracelessly."

Glebby - great bump :) I think I might just have to go spend this rainy saturday afternoon watching the Mr. Monotony outtakes and then follow it quickly with a Harvey Girls chaser.

I'm watching Molly Brown on PBS right now.
"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

Isn't that weird? I was just thinking about the Molly Brown movie. Who's the choreographer for that? Is it Gennaro?
#522

Lady Be Good

Yup.

I LOVE MELVIN

I adore I LOVE MELVIN. It's completely unpretentious, but full of charm and with a delightful Mack Gordon-Josef Myrow score. You're right, cserranie - Reynolds and O'Connor are pretty darn adorable together. And I love little Noreen Corcoran: "Troubles are just like lollypops. They're here. They're gone."

This and GIVE A GIRL A BREAK are my two favorite forgotten MGM musicals of the 1950s
