I hear both of you. Yes, Jane2, I got your metaphor right away. I appreciate where Oksana came from, but at the same time, there's just something I never liked about her.
I do have some new and upcoming favorites, but I can't remember they're names. It could be that it's just not cold enough yet to think of skating!!

Posted: 10/14/07 at 6:36pmI don't remember their names either. One was Asian, I remember, and one was extremely young-remember we were talking about how Michele was that age when she came on the scene.

Posted: 10/14/07 at 6:40pmJane- I can't believe you started this thread because I SWEAR- I was just thinkg about this earlier today! REALLY! I have been a fan since I was a little girl. I missed whatever skating you all were watching today. Huge Michelle Kwan fan for her grace and elegance. I hated Tara Lipinski! One of my favorite Will and Grace episodes is when Will and Karen were trying to get Grace and Jack to click. They realized their love for skaters is what they had in common. They both loved Michelle and then Jack went OFF on Tara. They both loved Surya Bonaly. It was a GREAT episode. Personally, I think our young skaters today lack the grace of Michelle. Nonetheless- can't wait to see the new season. Cturtle and I have already PM'd each other- He has a VAST knowledge and appreciation of the sport! I'm sorry I missed today's show. Thanks for posting!

Today was an exhibition celebrating breast cancer awareness month. I like competitions better, but this was a nice show.

I haven't watched competitions for so long, I don't even know how the new scoring works!
And give up on Michelle?!?!? Hell, I haven't finished mourning the loss of Torvill and Dean yet

*sigh*
The Beilmann spin!
I WISH there was a compilation DVD somewhere of some of these folks.
The Protopopovs, Rodnina and . . . whoever, Tai and Randy, Robin Cousins, Peggy - and, of course, my fave ever John Curry!

Posted: 10/14/07 at 7:31pmTorvill and Dean were just amazing! Didn't Jill Trenary marry Christopher? I wonder if they're still married. I thought they had kids- I bet they are beautiful. I love the Russian male skaters- so sexy! I remember the first time I saw Denise do her Bielmann spin- now it's required. I also love the drama of the Russian dance pairs, dating each other, breaking up... This was this show on the WE channel called something like Skating's Next Star. Never saw who won but Kristi Yamaguchi was the main host. To me the most emotional skating was when Ekaterina Gordeeva (sp) skated solo after her husband tragically died of a congenital heart condition.

I've done a LITTLE searching (not much) and all I find are things that go ALL the way back to Nancy and Tonya (YUCK!!!)
Thankfully, I do have a few tapes of Torvill and Dean's - they were the subjects of a few.
edit - I forgot I DO have one called 'Ice Skating Showcase - Great Routines of the 1980's'

Ekaterina is gorgeous. my cousin delivered their baby!
Anyway, I wouldn't mind having a chance to watch Bolero again with T&D. And in his prime, I considered Sasha Zulin the most beautiful man on earth!!!

I'm sorry, but I had to laugh at that picture of Johnny.
If any of you like Michael Weiss, he's supposed to be at the Bryant Park thing tomorrow with other skaters and the Altar Boyz to celebrate the skating pond over there. Or something.
