Just came across this article while looking at pics of Johnny W. it is an older article from 2006. It talkes about his shopping sprees.
Drop Till You Shop
Wow. I wanna shop like Johnny Weir.
So do I. I just don't want a pair of those hand warmers or that many bags! Designer stuff doesn't impress me. I'd spend that money on a good sound system and lots of theatre tickets. And my friends and family.
"found out that most recently he was a Jewish girl from Poland during World War II."
LOL
My reason to follow figure skating this year... Evan Lysecek
Evan was fabulous. He was my favorite of the men.
the women though-I'm sorry but I don't get Emily Hughes. I think she's heavy on the ice, not graceful, and if she has choreography, I never see it.
I don't see what's so great about Kimmie Meisner either. Nothing special about her. What happened to the MIchelle Kwans or Sasha Cohens of the world?
Michelle Kwan enrolled at DU here in Denver last year. Not sure if she is still here.
Today I went to Bryant Park for the opening of the third season of their skating pond. I was lucky-it was a gorgeous sunny day and I got a seat at the edge of the rink. The big stars were Michael Weiss, and Kyoko Ina and John Zimmerman, whose photos I'm posting.
Mike doing one of his famous flips.
Jeez that John Z. is hot!
We're getting excited about the season starting, but I have to agree...even though she hasnt truly been competing for awhile, I will miss Michelle SO MUCH! Truly the greatest skater I've ever seen...we'll never have her back.

John Zimmerman - hot
Michael Weiss - not hot
and he is too well known for his two foot landings.
"They're from Japan now. "
You got that right.
The Haydenettes
jeez...Hayden Panatierre is everywhere! Now she has a synchro skating club?
LOL, they were actually very good. Unfortunately, the sound person at the rink today totally fu*cked up. The poor Haydenettes tried to start a routine several times but the sound didn't work. So they asked them to leave the ice while they tried to fix it. Before they could leave the ice, they started it again, no luck. This went on for a while.
THEN-the poor ALTAR BOYZ tried to do a few numbers. The sound on the first number kept going on and off. then only one of their mikes worked, then none. Those guys could do nothing but stand there. Then one of them said "And now, the Haydenettes!" It was funny. Photo coming up. They had to end up leaving the ice also.
Not a great picture, but you get the idea. Here are the Altar Boyz bewildered at what was going on with the sound. Andrew Call (r) seems to have decided to keep on going by himself-what a trouper!
They ended up laughing it off before they left the ice!

I completely forgot about Skate America on this past weekend! And I guess that is the only competition ABC is airing until US Nationals and Worlds? I barely even know the newer skaters, there's so little shown.
So did you all hear that there might be a merger with Stars on Ice and Tom Collins' tour?

NBC has all the tv rights to USFS events like Skate America and Nationals. ESPN still has the rights to the GP events and Worlds. Who knows what will happened in 2009 when that contract expires though. We may only get to see international competitions (that aren't the Olympics) on the internet with icenetwork or youtube.
BTW, youtube has tons of vids from Skate America. Caroline Zhange of the U.S. got the first full score ever in the Code of Points. Her layback spin was graded a level 4 (highest level you can achieve) and had 3+s across the board in her LP. She got third place overall (beating Emily Hughes). Her jumps are stilly iffy though and look small and underrotated. The judges only ratified two of her triples, but her LP still scored around a 100. If she can clean her jumps up, she'll be a force to be reckoned with.
Make you sure you check her exhibition from Skate America. Her layback goes on forever.
Here's your trusty figure skating schedule keeper with a headsup for today-Skate Canada on ESPN-4:40-7 pm, Eastern time.
