Tonya's program is one of my earliest skating memories. I was 8 years old during the Lilihammer olympics and was glued to my television set (except I had to go to bed before Oksana Baiul's long program).
However, watching the pairs long made me wish for the Russian teams from days gone by. They were nice enough to watch, but they lacked the passion and chemistry of the greats like Gordeeva & Grinkov and Mishkutienok & Dmitriev. I found Zhang & Zhang to be far more compelling.
As far as Emily Hughes not being sent to Torino, I seem to remember that Michelle Kwan wasn't sent by the USFSA either. Didn't she have to pay for her own ticket?
Well in the Michelle Kwan Tribute they did say that she paid her own way......other rather her dad did.
But in documentary about her leading up to the 2002 Games, she said "They sent me over to Lillehammer as an alternate".
So perhaps it was some of both.
Did anyone see Tatiana and Maxim on Today, today? If so, what all did they say?
Also, this is another observation!
One thing I LOVE about the Olympics is the Ice Rink is so pretty! ABSOLUTELY NO ADS on the Rink! No Smuckers or State Farm banner, Just Olympic "stuff" to let you know what event it is. Plus the Ice has the Olympics Rings and symbols and stuff always very cool and pretty.
However, I really don't like the whole Torino set up, for whatever reason! Maybe it's the color? But it's okay. That's just something I've felt the past few days :)
I agree. The red around the rink is a little...weird. I prefer when they use cool tones like blue, green, or purple. Just seems more...wintery.
I remember having strep throat during Nagano and being so mad that I slept through the men's program. I think it was Todd Eldridge who skated to "Master of the House?" Either way, I was hacked off.
Are you guys watching Olympic Ice?
The "Moskvina Minute" is so funny! But I love to her talk!
Also, I had no idea about Rena Inoue and Lung Cancer. I'm glad she is well. I hope they continue too!
Also, does anyone know what she placed at the 1992 and 1994 Olympics?
In 1992 she placed 14th in the Pairs competition and failed to place in Women's Singles.
In 1994 she placed 18th in Women's Singles.
Be glad I found these...it took some digging.

But she will always be known as the first human to land a throw triple axel in competition AND at the Olympics.
Thank You Kitzarina! That was very nice of you!
I guess Rena got to ride on the Success of Midori Ito at the time, because I'm pretty sure that Yuka Sato was above her in the singles.
I haven't actively and seriously follwed figure skating since 1998, so I was shocked to see what a strong force the Chinese pairs teams were. When I was growing up, the only Chinese skater of note was Lu Chen.
I wish NBC olympics didn't show the spoilers! I want to go there to read good articles and such, but I don't want to come across spoilers! I guess I'll have to wait until later......or on "off" figure skating days!
Johnny tonight!
I'm not so sure about Tatiana's comments! Mainly because I can never make sense of anything she says in English!
David was talking about the conservative program that T&M, and I was like, "It's harder than the one that you skated 4 years ago!"
I absolutely love the skating show on USA. I wish it was on every day of skating season! Jamie and David are great. I had forgotton how much I adored them. I'm excited for the long program tonight. The thing about the long tape delay is that they can show just 2 people at a time and intersperse all the other sports - makes it take FOREVER! I'm slapping my hands away from clicking on the results because I don't want to know, but I don't know if I can make it to 11pm tonight.
So if this Japanese guy skating right now is the only guy, then that means that Takeshi Honda is not there
That arena is dead empty.
Yeah, I kind of tuned out for a minute and heard them mention his name but didn't hear about why he's not around. Isn't there a rule with how people finish at worlds that earns them a certain amount of spots in international competitions? I'm pretty sure that's why we have gained a dance spot and a guys spot recently.
here's some figure skating question I have:
1) What happened to Bourn and Kratz? After they retired I thought they would continue to skate together in professional stuff. But I've seen Shalynn skating alone. What happened to them.
2) Okay there was a Canadian Pairs team at the Olympics. But what happened to a pairs let that should have been a contender? Not sure of their name, but I think the girls name was Anabel. They had the same coaches as Jamie and David. Blonde girl, Dark-headed guy. Very attractive team. What happened to them?
Yes there is a rule and I think that Takeshi had to withdraw at last years WC, so he could have taken away his spot.
Just watched Plushenko. Good as aspected. BUT his foot work choreography DID NOT GO WITH HIS MUSIC AT ALL! To be the class of the field I would expect his music music to match what he does on the ice! Obviously didn't hurt his marks.
Jeffery Buttle just fell!
I actually preferred the Japanese skater's performance above Plushenko's. Yvegeny seemed to flail his arms too much during his interpretation of the music.
I've been waiting for Yvegeny to get a haircut for years. Alexi Yaguadin was always my favorite guy.
Jeffrey Buttle - cutie patootie!
Did William Forsythe choreograph Plushenko's dance?
But Dottie, you can't question his placement. I miss his Bielmann Spin!
