Matt Savoie has a been line to his skating.
I hope they show Emanuel Sandhu as well. When he's on, his programs can be very beautiful.
Poor Evan!!!!!! I wanted him to do a good program so bad!
and poor Manny! After such a good 4-3 combo! It would appear he did place ahead of Evan though.
I'm upset about Matt too! Beautiful skating, but not the most difficult elements. So when his only mistake was his easiest jump, it's upsetting!
It's hard to believe the Japanese skater is in 5th after skating first and having those mistakes! Maybe that's a good thing about this system, that your order can't really hurt you anymore, or atleast not as much as the old system.
Johnny Weir had the performance of the night, but I guess it all came down to Plushenko's quad......Plus his pedigree.
I predict that Plushenko will win Gold and Johnny will win a medal(not sure what color). Then someone else, probably Brian or Stephane. I perfer Stephane
what was with all the empty seats??! i sure wish i had been in one of them!
Does anyone know if they repeat everything in the same order at 1:30 am? I may stay up to see Plushenko
i guessing it's the same coverage, just repeated. pleshenko's short was the best thing i've ever seen him skate. he wasn't so over the top ... and he's cut his hair!
I'm going to try and stay up-only 15 min to go!
I had to laugh out loud! I might be the biggest Plushenko fan here, but what was all that spastic activity that didn't relate to the music? He was skating to some other music than what was playing, LOL! Of course he was magnificent but I do think he got carried away in this program.

Man...does Plushenko even have to try anymore? His Tosca SP was choreographic non-sense (stole that from a poster from Figure Skating Universe), and it was true. Like I said in my analysis. Plushenko has command, but that doesn't mean the judges should ignore his defincies...like his inferior spinning to other men, his awful, empty choreography, and his disconnection with his music. But he breaks the COP world record...whatever. The COP doesn't solve anything! At least he was clean...I can't say that about most of the men.
Didn't I tell you Daisuke Takahashi was so great? I was trying to hold back gushing about him in my analysis a few pages ago, but I was so impressed with him when he WON Skate America. It's a shame about no flow out of triple/triple and mess up on triple axel because he should've scored higher. He was still robbed. His score and Buttle's scores were way too close and he should've beaten that lame Joubert and his lame ass over the top 007 routine. That has to be the worst SP I've ever seen. You guys watch out for Daisuke...he skates last and if he skates well, his Rachmaninoff LP will blow you away.
Jeffrey Buttle, 1 member of my triangle of favorite eligible men (the other 2 are Lambiel and Takahashi), but man did he suck tonight. His Sing, Sing, Sing SP isn't one of my favorite programs from him because he's capable of better and he doesn't do showy too well. Man, a fall on the triple axel and hand down on the triple lutz and still nearly beating Dice-K? That's not right, despite the fact that I loooooove Buttle. I hope he kicks ass in the LP because Buttle is too good of a skater to not show the world what he's capable of.
Johnny Weir was so awesome. He saved the SPs from being totally horrible. His Swan SP is so good and I thought he used the Camille glove much better here than he did at Nationals. However, he did have a small double-foot on the flip which maybe cost him a bit. Beautiful skating, but his LP to Otonal is even better. Just wait for it, it's going to be so great. However, I hate how fake he is in-camera. He's one of those people that love the attention and act a certain way to get it. Shaking up the establishment? Whatever...you're just being self-absorbed. He acts like a rebel when he's as mainstream as it comes. Looking up to Paris Hilton...come on now.
Stephane Lambiel...I loved his old SP a lot more. This one was a bit more bland, but his movement is so good and a bit more polished than his totally hot Once Upon a Time in Mexico would let him be. Oh well...I wish he'd gone for the triple axel and nail...making this seem more of a competition than a coronation for Plushenko. Come on Stephane! You can kick butt in the LP and show them you're a World Champion!
Evan Lysaceck...poor guy. THat SP was good...the first million times. He's had that costume and SP forever, he could've changed it for Torino. Its even worse that he has a Spanish LP to Carmen too! It's a shame that the reigning World bronze medalist had to go down like that because I really love his style. I knew it was going to be bad when Frank Carroll had to scream at him in a desperate attempt to get Evan into it...didn't work.
A lot of people are going to hate me for saying this. I totally respect Matt Savoie and I wish other men could do what he does. Savoie has all the great quality of skating and skills every man should have. That said...his SP was so utterly boring! I think he was being boring on purpose because only ladies can be that boring.
Brian Joubert was just awful IMO. Bad choreography, bad footwork, bad spins...he just had a quad and looks straight. Oooh wow! Big deal. I hope he's last in the top 6 at least because his LP is really awful.
Sandhu...can't do...what else is new?
Poor Kevin Van der Perren and Stefan Lindermann! Both skated to Eurotrash music and really had bad skates. But it's sadder for Linderman because he was a freaking World bronze medalist who beat a clean Lambiel! What the heck happened?
The best part was the Dick Button and Sandra Bezic cat-fight. Button but condescending Bezic in her place! Thank God. She needed to shut the heck up in forever. If Kwan does go into commentating (and get voice lessons because she needs it) I'll be so glad if she kicks Sandra "quitting the sport for good because no skater is good enough for my choreography...but the truth is my choreography sucks and was overrated and no skater wants to go to me" Bezic out of the commentator chair.
The Mens competition sucked tonight...here's hoping for a much better Thursday night!

Ooooh, I've Tivo'd the men's competition but haven't yet watched. I will eagerly await the Button-Bezic cat fight.
I never did care for her, and I was surprised to see that NBC had her back in the chair.
Speaking of Bourne and Krantz, apparently he decided to retire I guess after the last Olympics. Not sure why, as they never cashed in on their popularity. She tried to continue with another partner, but that fizzled, so now she's skating solo. I liked her in pairs, but I find her kind of boring as a single skater.

I love the Olympic Ice show on USA network. I am so impressed with Jamie and David's commentary. Did you see the interview of the Russian pair winners and their reaction to the fall of the Chinese gal? But the best part was the surprised look on Jamie's face afterwards.
once again, Vgirl, you told it like it was with the men's short! i agree with all your comments. (except the one about MATTY's short. i think it's beautiful and brilliant.) yes, i LOVED watching DICE-K! and i love your "choreographic nonsense" comment
jane, i thought PLUSHY's short had the most TONED DOWN "spastic activity" (love that description!) i've ever seen him do. he was so much CALMER than he usually is. but i'm sure he'll pull out all the stops for the long and go back to his same old flailing arms, splayed fingers, head popping (don't pop the head, cassie!), posing self.
and may i add that i just want to kidnap DAVID PELTIER and keep him for my very own?!
Again, VIETgrl, very well said. I mentioned Plushenko's choreography right after he skated. He just flailed his arms all over the place.
Also, I sent you a PM days ago, but you never opened it.

Someone here mentioned Matt Savoie's program as easy. It was actually one of the highest difficulties of the evening. With a quad combo, it would've been in the top three most difficult.
His artistry is unsurpassed in men's skating.
I am still hoping he pulls up a few ranks and skates a remarkable free skate and takes a medal! He's less than 10 points out of contention for one!
I feel weird about the introduction before the show. NBC kept talking Jonny and Evan, but no mentioning of Matt at all! Hello? I almost thought Matt wasn't in because of something happened to him.
And I don't like Jonny's program. Bore me to death. And he looks so femine. I like Stephane a lot more than him. And Matt is simply beautiful.
I feel so sorry for Sandhu. He won a champion by beating Plushenko in some year (I forgot, maybe 2003 or 2004). That performance is one of the most amazing performances I ever saw. What a body!
Plushenko is on. His eyes are burning for competetion. That is what I like.
Sandhu's choreography is wonderful. I just wish he'd land his jumps more consistently. What was strange last night, when they listed the results, they neglected to list Matt Savoie (8th), but they posted Evan Lysacek's (10th).

I love Matt Savoie's skating and I think he does things that other men should strive for. However, I don't think his SP brings it out. For me, it's sorta one-note because Matt seems to only able to do the introverted, subtle programs and doesn't really branch out other than that. However, I love his Mission LP and will totally be rooting for him in the LP...hell I'll be rooting for all the men to make it much better than the SPs were.
EDITED to ADD: Dottie, you're right about Matt being shafted...it's bad enough his PCS got shafted (as usual) by the judges, but NBC didn't have to do it too!
It's not that I hate Plushenko. I think he deserves to be first and he has the presenence and power that other men don't have, therefore he looks like a champion and skates like one. However, his SP was so bad that his skating saved it from being a nightmare. Thank God Plushenko is a great enough skater to pull it off because a lesser skater wouldn't have made that crap look half as good.
Dottie, sorry about the pms, I usually never check it. Will now.
You see, say what you want about Plushenko, but he's consistent. I don't see another men's skater on his level. I laughed at his SP, but don't get me wrong-I think they SHOULD just hand him the medal. You don't have to hope he's going to land his jumps, you don't have to say you hope he's "on", etc. The things everyone's saying about the other skaters don't have to be said about him. He deserves every prize he gets.
Jane2, you have a point about Plushenko. Even when his take-off is a little shakey, he always manages to land the jumps. I'm looking forward to the long program.
I'm happy that NBC choose to show all the short programs whether they were skated cleanly or not. I'm also happy that they didn't employ the use of the overhead camera.

Hell yes! I *hate* that camera angle! Hate it! It's alost more appropriate for curling than figure skating. Blah!

I agree with V, Matt's SP did come off as one-note, and I just love him too. I think it was the music, which while lovely, was just too monotonous for the duration of the SP, where you want to excite the audience.
Changing subjects slightly, I really don't like the medals this year, they look too much like CDs. I think it's my least favorite. The other medal I did not care for were the crystal ones made by Lalique for the Albertville Olympics. They were beautiful, but too fragile.
Just remembered something-did anyone see the end of the show last night and you saw Johnny give a little over the top flouncy kind of pose? Very cute, but I think he's getting carried away also. I hope he grows up soon. I vaguely remember that at the start of Sasha Cohen's public career, she had somewhat of an attitude, which she gradually put in check over time.
Jonny Weir is like a girl. As a man, being artistic, sexy is one thing; being femine is another. Not my taste.
Jane2, I saw that and my first reaction was WTF!
Sasha still has a bit of an attitude although it's not as pronounced as in earlier seasons.
So what happened to my last post? It doesn' show up for me anymore. Dottie, at least you saw it, sheesh! Back to Johnny Weird. In time, his "people" will probably tell him to cool it a bit.
