Glad you brought up Johnny Weir. I almost forgot about him. For some reason, he mesmerizes me. Every time I watch him I try to figure out what his appeal to me is, but I still can't put my finger on it. Yes, he's extremely balletic and graceful, lands some beautiful jumps, has a pretty-ish face, but I still don't know why I'm transfixed on him. I do hate his costumes. They're all basically the same-plant-like forms weaving around his arms, legs and buttocks! Also, he needs to wash his hair.
He's mesmerizing because he is the most musical of them all
Agreed, but there's still something about him. Maybe it's because he's kind of aloof.
He sprained his ankle during his performance not too long ago, I remember seeing him crying as he walked off backstaged. Poor guy.
Poor baby. I hope he got lots of cuddles.
I saw him last year, the beginning of the season, he was kind of new on the scene. He kept falling and finally went crashing into the wall. He couldn't get up and had to stumble off the ice without finishing the program. I also saw him crying that time this season. Crying? he was BAWLING!
Johnny Weir is definitely not new to the scene for those who follow skating. He was on the podium at World Juniors a few years back. The incident in Dallas, of course, is etched in to most people's memories due to the television coverage.
I agree though, he is a mesmorizing skater with a good musical sensibility.
I love Tinkerbell's ability to not hold his feelings back.
I think that is why his artistry is so incredible when he skates.
Did anyone watch the 2005 World skating competition? The one where the USA, Canadian, Russian and World teams skate against eachother? I love one, it's so fun to watch! The skaters all seem to be having such fun!
we saw JOHNNY win the national championship here in atlanta in 2004. he performed flawlessly, and he was amazing to watch in person. he comes across much better live than he does on tv.
if you are a JOHNNY fan, you must visit his website. the photo gallery is not to be missed ...

Was just looking at his site and I have to apologize.
His nickname is Tinkerbelle. I was spelling it Tinkerbell.
i recorded the world team competition and have watched parts of it. KURT BROWNING did a fantastic artistic number. and SALLE & PELTIER's artistic program was amazing!
oooooo that Kurt is sooooo cute.
did you see KURT do SINGING IN THE RAIN on a PBS special a number of years ago? i wish to GOD i had that recorded. it was beyond words ...
I liked his portrayal of Mercutio.
Saw that live.
kurt was mercutio?? was this R & J on ice? the only R & J on ice i've seen is the one with dorothy playing juliet and robin playing romeo ... and mercutio was BRIAN POKAR ... watching it makes me cry ...
He just did a solo to the Prokofiev music with port de bras from Cranko's R&J solo for Mercutio.
Does anyone remember when Sasha Zulin was still skating? And his hair was long, he wore it blunt cut, almost chin length? At that time I thought he was the most beautiful man on Earth.
jane, speaking of zhulin ... i saw that platov has joined his coaching team. is that not weird and ironic? if you recall, when zhulin and usova split, usova teamed up with platov. she was finally free of what she said was an abusive relationship, and skating with platov, it looked like she enjoyed skating for the first time. they looked fantastic together. and now platov works with zhulin??
OH, I TOTALLY remember that! Are you kidding? Oy, that tramp-the other woman-PASHA! She was a good skater but a HO! She broke them up. It was the scandal of the skating world. That's ironic that Platov is working with Zulin now. Have you noticed how much Zulin's current wife looks like Usova?
that pasha thing made me want to throw up! and yes i did notice the resemblance. i wonder what maya is doing now??
cturtle, I changed my avatar to an old picture of Sasha. It's the best one I could find, but it isn't showing him the way I'm referring to.
It's official ... http://www.usfsa.org/Story.asp?id=32490&type=news
Hooray for Tanith and Maxim!
I used to see Johnny Weir skate a lot, because he was another skater that trained at my college. It was interesting to see him go from just another guy who performed in the "Nationals Send Off" show to someone who was a good competitor and won some events.
My big skating pet peeve is Dick Button. I can't handle listening to him announce and narrate events. I love that the Olympics is on NBC because Dick is an ABC announcer :)
