Nationals time! Yeah!
I'm watching my tape from last night because I was driving home, so I'm not going to look online for results until I see it on the tape!
Me too-I taped it and I'm going to watch as soon as I run out for a minute.
Well I can say that I'm glad that Michael Weiss is in 2nd because I really want him to make this Olympic team!
btw kittens, the challenge next wednesday night on PROJECT RUNWAY is to design a skating costume for SASHA COHEN! please join me and my idol, the very worried Tim Gunn, for this fabulous melange of fashion, faggotry and ferocity. will (or actually, how badly will) andrae breakdown in the kiss and cry? will santino kneecap nick ("WHY ME?!") in an effort to take down his competition? will zulema be disqualified for her backflip? will daniel v. finally do a clean solo program and carry the day? find out this wednesday!
That is a GREAT challenge! And one I can finally relate to. Mostly I admire her costumes except for the last one I saw her in, it seemed like a new designer was brought on board.
BTW-now they need someone to redesign Johnny Weir's costumes.
Okay, here are some thoughts. It's a crime and shame that Alyssa did poorly in her SP. If everything fell into place, she would have placed 2nd to Sasha Cohen. She can usually jump(though not sure about 3-3 combinations) and has SO MUCH ARTISTIC FLAIR! Her spins and spirals are everybit as good as Sasha Cohens......made even better due to the speed.
Kimmie has her 3-3 jumps, but when they don't go too well for her, she doesn't have a lot to fall back on yet.
So I wish Alyssa and Kimmie luck in the FP.
As for Emily and Bebe, I'm really happy for them. Emily is a solid jumper and can do it all, but doesn't really do 3-3 combinations like Kimmie or have the High Artistic flair of Alyssa(though Emily's spins are gorgeous in their own way). Anyways, I felt like they had an advantage over her, so I'm glad she did it.
What she does have that they don't is a mega-watt smile and personality that is so strong!
I'm glad that Bebe put it together. She is SO TALENTED and can spin like a top and has great flexibility and put one out there for the record books.
I think it would be so cool if Emily Hughes made the Olympic team, and this is exciting because that spot isn't a guaranteed lock for anyone.
As for Michelle, I'm going to be VERY VERY MAD at her if they put her on the team and she withdraws like the day before. She needs to withdraw early enough for the alternate to get down there......maybe even before the Games start. I wish they would actually take the alternate instead of leaving them behind, so if she withdraws I hope she does so in enough time.
However, it seems like she's always last minute with a lot of this stuff, and last minute withdrawl would mostly likely leave the other girl off the ice with no time to get down to Turino. If it's not working out for her, I just hope she doesn't expect a miracle will happen and not withdraw even though she should.
So if she doesn't give another girl enough time to get down there and skate in this one in a lifetime event, then I hope Michelle skates and does whatever she can, even if she falls all over the place. I'll be REALLY UPSET if only 2 U.S. ladies skate at the Olympics.
Sounds like I'm bitter and I hate Michelle, but I'm not! :)
I like her and support her, but when I heard they weren't taking an alternate, I thought this could really be a possibility.
Well the pairs have done their FS and the Olympic team has been announced.
I'm really happy for the National Champions John Baldwin and Rene Inoue. She gave up her Japanese Citizenship to go to the Olympics with her husband(I think she has gone to the Olympics in 1994 in Singles for Japan).
They landed the first ever throw triple axel!!!!!! And they moved from 4th place to 1st place. This could really give them a shot for a medal in Turino. Anyways, Really Happy for John Baldwin.
On the other hand, VERY UPSET that my favorite Pair, Katie Orsher and Garrett Lucash went from 1st to 3rd and are not on the team. IMO, they are the best team. At any rate, they have a bright future should they continue.
However, I am glad for Arron Parcham and his partner who were able to hang on the 2nd place. Arron and his old partner were 3rd in 2002 and just missed out on the team, so I am glad that he is going this year.
Still, things would have been a lot better if the pairs teams could get 3 spots at the Olympics!
Don't forget the pairs program is being shown on ESPN2 beginning at 10:30 tonight.

A few notables from last night for me:
1) Sasha seemed tired.
2) Matt Savoie is my new favorite male skater -- hands down.
3) That girl who did the funky breakdance number...LOVING her.
4) Poor Amber Corwin. How is it that her artistic mark was LOWER than her technical -- she is one of the best artists skating?
5) Evan Lysacek is hottie mchot.
6) Am I evil for hoping Michael Weiss falls on all his jumps in the LP?
For some reason, I have never liked Michael Weiss either.
I don't like Michael Weiss, never did, never will. It's not only the sneer on his face or the arrogance-I never liked his skating style.
Jane2 - you are right. Johnny Weir needs new costumes.
WHY IS BASKETBALL STILL ON?!??!?!? Stupid overtime. Granted I know who won the pairs competition but I figured maybe they were gonna show the last warm up group of the dance live, since they're just getting started. I'm enjoying the live results this year on the usfsa website.
Don't worry-this happens every week. The skating starts after basketball.
At this rate, I'll be getting to bed really late tonight!

Wow. That throw triple axel was HUGE. Congrats to them!
I'm also SO happy for yet another cute gay guy and his partner who just made the Olympic team in ice dance. yay!
I was watching the Canadian women's skating last night, and i hate to say this, but they all were horrible! Out of the 7 or 8 skaters i saw, only one had a flawless routine and she only came in second. At least she's going to the Olympics. I miss the days of Kurt Browning, Elvis Stoiko, and Isabelle Brasseur and Lloyd Eisler. I've always stuck to my canadians.

I still have a crush on Brian Orser! Saw him in 1988 and have been crushin' ever since! LOL
Johnny Weir coming up on ABC.
Johnny now!
MATT made the top three! i've liked him since i saw him win the junior championship in 92. he was this plucky little humble down-to-earth kid who was a great all-around skater. over the years we've watched him improve steadily and develop a beautiful artistic style. i'm so happy he's (probably) on his way to the olympics.
AWWWWW, I guess I'm Alone in this but I like Michael Weiss and I feel his pain. However, he has been to the Olympics twice and that's really more than anyone can ask for.
Matt Savoie was the alternate in 2002, so I'm glad he made it this time around.
I knew that Johnny and Evan were going to make the team and they did :)
Poor Tim Goebel! He's definately the most accomplished skater out there, and this 7th place finish almost assures that this was his last competition. Still, he actually HAS an Olympic Medal. Skaters do some much just to get there, but once your there you still have to perform and he took home a medal. So he's got hardware to look back on.
And even though he finished last, the moments with Rohene Ward were very touching. I don't think we've seen the last of him and he reminds me so much of Rudy Galindo in his look and skating style.
Tonights the Ladies. I hope Sasha can put one out there. Then it's either Emily, Bebe, Kimmie or Alyssa. Alyssa would be ideal, but is the lowest placed girl. Kimmie needs her jumps......maybe even a triple axel. However, I feel a lot of personal connection with Emily Hughes and Bebe Liang. It's so hard!!!!!!
rohene is a cool guy, and it was fun watching him skate when nationals were here in atlanta is 04. BUT the whole REALITY TV thing was WAY over the top ... oh! oh! oh! let's fly his mother in without him knowing and then bring them together on camera and zoom in and stuff a microphone in their faces! yeah! brilliant! ... please :-/
Just finished watching the men's competition (taped it). Johnny Weir's program was really uninspiring because of his choice of music. On the other hand, I'm so happy that Matt Savoie placed 3rd. His program was very moving. Poor Tim Goebel, who would have thought after all of his accomplishments that he would place 7th.
Bring on the ladies.
That's true
But I really felt that those tears were true and genuine and they were with his mother, so that's fine with me.
