Final Bow for GLEE

Who saw last night's double episode finale of GLEE? I thought they did a great job wrapping up the series, even with some questionable moments/actions.

I'm just grateful that I have access to 700+ songs with captions that I otherwise wouldn't have had without GLEE. That's all I can say.

(I'm Deaf for those who don't know).

The radio isn't captioned, and MTV almost NEVER caption their music videos. All the music acts on the Grammys and the Tonys and the Oscars are all 3 lines of lyrics behind so it's not "fully accessible" while Glee's captions on the exact lyric being sung, thus making for a fuller and richer experience (match sound with word on the captions is way better than a disjointed wrong sound on the wrong line of lyric).

I think we can all learn a lot from GLEE- lessons like "keep your characters consistent, or people will lose interest," or like "establish your conventions and don't break them constantly, unless one of the first conventions you establish is that you're going to be playing with structure." Or that "schizophrenic tone that goes everywhere actually goes nowhere."

I thought they did a great job eschewing all of the ridiculously over-the-top elements (with the exception of Sue becoming Vice-President) and getting back to the heart and sole of what made the show so likeable in the beginning. I actually teared up a couple of times. Yes, it was time for it to go, but I thought they went out with a lot of style and grace, and found it to be a very satisfying finale all-around.

I thought it odd, too, that Santana and Brittany played almost no part at all in the finale, save for a brief appearance at the very end. Although, it would have been difficult to fit everyone in and give them a storyline. At least they were prominently featured in the wedding episode a few weeks back. I feel that episode gave their characters and storyline some closure.

Worst TV show ever. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

I admit watching it just to see how Ryan the Spider was going to knit this web of inconsistencies together. HOO BOY! I snickered a lot and out and out guffawed several times. and once again remembered Ilya ( Never On A Sunday)'s version of the Greek tragedies endings, "And they all go to the seashore" . sigh.

Technically, they should be, but I don't know if they actually are. I'd guess the overwhelming amount of content on YouTube makes it impossible for the captioning industry to keep up, but the goal is in sight, and it's certainly the desire of the FCC.
